Default My Cluster Is Possessed

Whats up guys? Im not sure what is wrong with my dash cluster but my speedometer jumps and then dont work. My rpm's work perfect and so does the tem/gas meters but the speedometer wont work and then sometimes it does and jumps back and forth... Any clues on what it could be? loose wire? faulty alarm? or should i take it to honda and have em look at it? I bought an SIR cluster but i dont wanna install it till i fix this problem... One more thing, my entire dash and ac controls don't light up either... can this all be because of the same problem?

thanks guys!

I had this problem with mine, and it actually turned out to be a bad cluster. Swap it with a friends, if possible, to check.

I've tried that already and continued to have the same problem.. Thats why i dont wanna install the SIR cluster till i solve this... I dont remember it doing this when i bought the car... It wasnt until i had the alarm installed that it started but im not 100% sure on that.... Damn it! thanks though...

I'm having a similar issue but I don't think its the VSS.My Apexi boost controller still reads kph uninterrupted as does my Hondata datalog.I believe its the cluster or the cluster connector.I've been to busy to investigate further, but I am getting better at kph to mph conversion.

Ill replace the speed sensor then see how it acts... Once i fix it and i swap to the SIR cluster which is in kph will it function normal or will it be off?

could also being a wiring problem. i know that some 5th gen civics have problems in the wiring with these speedos. ALSO the circuitry is poorly designed on the back of these clusters. its like paper with copper run through it, then coated with a spray that cracks off.... surely honda didnt think a lot about this one.

i have the same problem, though mine doesnt have a tach, its the stock dx cluster, i have all the fuses but it still wont lite up and i replaced the wiring in my car (to the dash anyway) and brought all new fuses. not sure if its the sensor or the cluster itself, but wen i buy a new cluster with the tach on it and it still doesnt work, where wud the sensor be located to replace that or is it built in the cluster? O_o
