Default My civic dies while driving!!!

Hello,

It is my first time on such a website. My 99 civic also turns off while driving, this mostly happends when the weather is hot. I changed the ignition plugs, oil filter, and cleaner the fuel pump many times and the battery is fine. My dad insists on the problem being the fuel pump but I think it has something to do with the Ignition control module since the light behind the wheel goes out but comes back after a couple of minutes when you just sit there. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

thank you,

KF

It's your ignition switch. There's a recall on it so you can have the dealer replace it. Switch fails due to carbon build up on worn contacts. Exact same thing happened to me...

NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 02V120000 - Hide Details
Recall Data: 05/16/2002
Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
Units Affected: 1000000
1999 HONDA CIVIC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
Recall Date: 05/16/2002

Summary:
ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.

Consequence:
WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

Potential Units Affected: 1000000

HI,

Ok but what should I tell Honda? Because when I ask them if there is a recall they tell me I should have received a letter...

Here is the TSB:

http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq...e.pdf

Check to see if there is the center punch mark above the VIN in the engine compartment, to see if it already was replaced before. If not, contact Amercan Honda's 800 number previous posted above, and say you never received the letter, and the dealer would not help you on this due to no letter, and see if they can help you. American Honda may tell the dealer to do this on goodwill, and American Honda will reimburse the dealer.
