alright well usually when i turn on my car i put it in the ignition on position till i see my CEL go off then i crank on my car to turn it on. but recently when my car is in the on position there is no CEL. recently my friend was driving my car and downshifted to 2nd and my car was jerking a lot as soon he downshifted it. im guessing that has to do with this problem? but what is wrong or is this normal? btw, its a 97 civic hatchback with a obd1 jdm d15b. ive had CELs though but it never really affected my driving much.

If you're using a jumper harness, take a close look at the pins. Maybe something a wire poped out

If the CEL doesn't come on for 2 secs while the fuel pump primes and then turns off when the fuel pump stops, then something is wrong...it's not normal.

A18 (on an OBD2a Civic) is what controls the CEL. Ground it manually to see if it turns on the light. The other side of the bulb is fed battery voltage with the key 'on' or 'run'.
