My car vs volkswagens
Hey guys,i am a loner in the family for i am the only one that owns an eg hatch. All my cousins and my brother in vancouver own a bunch of modified volkswagens. My brother owns a very massaged 2.0 jetta 3 that does mid to low 15's in the quarter mile and my cousin and his buddy both own chipped 1.8 turbos which are both pumping about 210 bhp and 225 lbs of torque. My JDM b16a is comin in February and we all plan to duke it out in the summer when my brother comes down to Edmonton where i live. How will i do against these German competitors? Will my car end in triumph or will it be a volkswagen rape fest?Keep in mind the b16 will only have cold air, toda cams and an exhaust when this all goes down.

I'd say get a B18C1 if you're trying to compete with APR-chipped 1.8T VWs.
Sorry bro, but I've got a B16A2 in one of my hatches and my old B18C1 ate it alive at any rpm drop, from a stop, or whatever possible scenaio you could think of.
Hate to turn this into yet another motor vs. motor debate, but I'm just telling you that a 1.8L VTEC would be better if you're concerned with beating up on your bro's cars.
Welcome aboard too.

Road trips to go get motors are the best.
Definetly better than paying shipping, and you get to spend quality time with your friends.

Road trip from Edmonton to Ontario is a long *** drive.
You'll get raped. You'll need N20 or a turbo or a B18C or a supercharger.
Those things are pretty quick with just a chip.

I had both the B16A2 in my girl's 1992 Si and my B18C1 was in my old 1992 Si hatch. Never ran the B16A2 but the B18C1 Si hatch did 14.6 on street tires.
I did dyno the motors though:
B16A2 - 143whp 101ft/lbs. torque i/h/e re-chipped P28 ECU
B18C1 - 150whp 122ft/lbs. torque i/h/e FPR camgears
B18C5 - 175whp/123ft/lbs. torque i/e re0chipped ECU
The B16A2 got whipped every time by the B18C1 and the B18C5 murders the **** out of it whenever we're playing with both cars.
Sorry bro but the B16A just doesn't have the torque or top-end pull that a good GS-R swap or C5 swap does. Granted it's cheaper, but hell man it'd be hard to spend the same on that B16A (save nitrous) and beat the GS-R swap.
Just my opinion based on owning all 3 motors I listed.
The last one is for comparison really - that's my current motor in my 1992 Cx hatchy.
Call Osaka - their number's on that link. Call and ask for Mark and tell him Tom from H-T sent you!

1.8t vws arent all that fast in the quater mile, 1.8t chipped jettas run low 15's, 1.8t chipped audi's run mid high 15's, they are heavy and slow, but they arent made for the 1/4, if you have a stripped eg with a c1 you could be running 14's all day

the 1.8t's aren't that fast. they have some nice low end, but after that they're slouches. of course with some mods i'm sure they'll do nicely.

Rocco Siefridi: The animal Trainer. That guy is just ruthless to the girls he puts in his videos. I mean he is heartless.[/QUOTE]
Apexi i ITR, you must watch a lot of ****.. lol... "the animal trainer".. hell yeah
Getting back to the topic I would get the GSR motor also. Trust me, i have a 2000 Si (b16a2), it's a great motor, but for more power, go with the GSR or ITR motor..
