my car takes forever to heat up
I have 00 civic and it takes forever to heat up. Should I change coolant? or there could be something else.

at the fitting where the suction hose is connected. There are 2 diagonal #12bolts on it. if you see a " space craft looking thing in it, then that is your thermostat. If its empty, go buy one and install it. Pretty much common sense on how to install it.

yeah I would guess that the thermostat is failed or not there. either way if its not there or if its just bad you should go buy a new one before you go through all the trouble of draining your coolant and taking apart the thermostat housing.

thermostat is probably in the stuck open position not letting the coolant heat up to warm the car up instead letting the coolant circulate non-stop preventing the car from reaching operating temprature normally.
flush the coolant and replace the thermostat.
