My car died today and I need some help
So I was on my way to work and stopped at a gas station for a beverage. When I came out my car wouldn't start. It would just rotate and rotate. So I looked at the fuel gauge and it was pretty close to E and I was on a incline so I thought maybe fuel isn't getting to the pump. Rolled to a pump filled it up and it started. Almost get to the exit of the gas station when the car dies. So now I'm just pissed and call a tow truck to bring it to a mechanic. Mechanic says it is either the distributer the ingniter(ICM) or the ignition coil. But he doesn't have time to fix it today, and I need it for school on monday. Have it towed home. I checked the primarty and secondary spots on the coil. They seem to be good. Checked ICM seems to be good. Now before I go out and get a new distributor, could it be anything else like bad grounds? Would anybody happen to know what grounds should be checked and their location. Also is there anything I can do to check the distributor out before buying a new one.
BTW on my ICM there are four wire connections. Starting from the front I have a blue, then a yellow/green, then a black/yellow, then a yellow/green. I know there should be a blue/white one but I guess that has been changed. In process of checking the ICM I got voltage between the yellow/black wire and ground, and between the yellow/green wire(the connecter closest to the firewall). I got correct ohm resistance between the offset terminal (blue wire) and the yellow/green(supposed to be blue/white wire). Is this the correct procedure for testing it?
