My buddies twice turbo supra does that when he sits on the rev limiter (gets the local ricers stirred up when he comes to town). Maybe you got one of those 2JayZ whatevers in there. Yo

Re: My car backfired and fire came out.... (Bailhatch)
Most times it's just from a little extra fuel dumping into the motor either after you backed off the throttle or hitting the rev limiter. The throttle body closes not allowing anymore air into the combustion chamber but the extra fuel is burnt w/o enough air. That's mostly why you see cars backfiring when they either downshift or bounce off the rev limiter. The car also has to be running rich for this to occur.

It's not too bad, unless you are running incredibly rich. If this is something that's only happened once then I wouldn't worry too much about it. What kind of exhaust do you have, cause that might aid in fire coming from the exhaust. Like, I don't think I could get fire to come out of my APEX'i World Sport...but someone with like a straight pipe or something might have an easier time getting flames out. You sure you didn't install the Fast And Furious flame thrower kit on your car

i'm running rich right now with my b16 and it sometimes backfires (non-fire) when im idling or not accelerating. it doesnt affect the performance or anything, but if your car keeps on backfiring with fire coming out then you should invest in a fuel management system (vafc) to control your car from running too rich

My car does this quite a bit. Especially after a race or even throughout a race. Too bad last time this happened I ended up with some bent valves and a 4 foot flame. I am running no cat with the Apexi N1 so that adds to it partially, but when fuel is dumped into the motor and then you back off afterward, it burns out quickly and sometimes results in a flame of some sort. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

It is always better to run rich than to run lean. But running TOO rich will cause some serious problems as read above.
