Are my bearings toast?
So I just got home and turned off the radio and noticed that there was a clicking noise coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and reved it a bit from the tb and the noise seems to be coming from the block right under the distributer. The motor is a d16y8 turbo but I didn't take it past 6500 rpm so I don't know why it would start doing this all of a sudden. Can anything else be causing this clicking noise. Its not that loud so I'm not certain.

I got a chip for it and it ran good, like stock, and I just got the turbo in a couple days ago. I really didn't get on it though. I was planning to get a tune sometime next month but if its bad then I might as well rebuild the bottom end if it will be disassembled.

Re: Are my bearings toast?
Its a sligh click barely noticable at idle but gets a bit louder at around 3k rpm. Could it be a problem with the head because that would be good news since i was going to rebuild it shortly.

Could it be a noisy throwout bearing or pilot bearing, since the trans is right there too. I had some funky noises coming from my old trans that are gone now with a new tb and pilot bearing. Just a thought.

Re: Are my bearings toast?
I tried posting a vid but it didn't load so I might try putting it on youtube and putting up a link. If it is the bearings, how much would it be to have a shop install low comp. pistons and h beam rods and polish the crank and new bearings? This one shop quoted me 1300 for labor but that seems crazy high for just labor.

In for updates, you get the video to work?
anyway, if it was a rod bearing it would be kind of inconsistent sounding.
for example, if you had rod knock you would hear the knock sound maybe every other engine cycle and and no particular pattern.
A noisy head will make a consistent "tick tick tick tick" on every engine cycle. Here is a pretty good example of a noisy head..

Re: Are my bearings toast?
It sounds exactly like that but not as loud. So what was the problem with that motor?
LOL n/m, valve knocking. I just saw it.

Re: Are my bearings toast?
Heres the vid. You will notice that only when the camera is close to the motor it is loud.

Re: Are my bearings toast?
its a spun main bearing. because you didnt tune the car when you got the turbo it just got worse and worse over time. even with a small ammount of boost, it spun the beading the second u turned on that car. it may not have spun it much but enough to thro it off and it finally got bad enough for you to hear if and notice. do you know how your oil pressure is?

Re: Are my bearings toast?
hmm, kind of hard to tell. It has the pattern of a noisy head but sounds like a rod. Do you notice any noticeable loss in power on high end? Clean *** bay by the way!! HD ftw!!
