some sacrifice has to be made to be fast? if not, i hear putting a gsr or ls 4th, and 5th will be benefitial.

That's retarded. It's not going to make a significant different. If you want to save gas get a goddamn EX with stock motor.

I'd have to agree here. Your mpg will be the same through the rpm range. Remember, you changed the transmission. However, due to the closer gearing of the si trans, you will cruise at a higher rpm causing faster fuel consumption. Understand that a trans isn't going to add more hp, it just modifies how that power reaches the wheels.

I hate it when people post that. This kid obviously needs a little guidance and instead of pushing him in the right direction, you completely close the curtain on him. Why?

cause alot of people on honda tech are retarded, which gives it a bad name among the internet. Info is rated at a 10 but members attitude i would rate as a 4.

Try the LS 5th gear it should help out alot. I know its not the same, but my SOC ZC Vtec gets 40-41mpg and my best 1/4 time on street tires is 15.23@90 but i am def capped on things i can do, so i am gonna boost. (Cams and crap cost so much and i got a kit already)

I can tell you that I love the B16 tranny, I have had the same tranny in all my motors. JDM GSR, USDM GSR and now my LS. Its all about throttle pressure. The more you stomp on the gas the more fuel you consume. Yes bieng at a higher RPM does consume more gas than a lower RPM but throttle is far a more key than anything. I am gettin about 22 MPG in city and about 30 HWY. A full gas tank of 87 oct. I can get about 245 miles. Just intake, header, high flow, exhaust 2.5. Now fuel with higher octane also has the tendency to burn slower and last longer. When I have a full tank of 93 oct. I can get about 265 miles - 280 depending what I do more city or HWY. Now this is my B18B1 with 80K. Now my other motor the B18C with B16 same mods except for flywheel and clutch. Could get almost in the 300 if not 280-290 miles per tank. But this motor was fed 3 bottles of 44K in its lifetime. Soon the LS will be fed the same.

Exactly.

mfactory 1.0 5th gear, 80mph @ 4950rpm drive from columbia to spartanburg and back. averaging 75-85mph, cruising up hills and down hills ~31mpg

stock ex trans, 80mph @ ~3400rpm same drive, driven the same way, same engine, ~31mpg

Close enough for me to not care

I didn't point that comment towards you, ,infact, I backed up your claim. My comment was toward MR.johnson for saying "/thread". It really makes me angry when people say that crap. Theres obviously something more to tp be learned here, so why would you end a thread that could have potentialy good information? Posts like that are the reason we have people like that syndacate kid. He comes on honda-tech with no experience, and treats all the information here like gospel. Then he goes around and spreads bad information across the board.

B16 and GSR trans have the same gearing just about. The RPMs will be the same in 5th with either trans. My JDM B16 was at about 3100-3200RPM at 60. Same as my USDM GSR.

actually all the gears on the GSR tranny are a bit longer then the b16...except reverse of course..

Putting an LS 5th gear in will cost you more than just paying a few extra cents at the pump. Honestly is your wallet going to notice probably not even 1mpg?

Bense know what he's talking about. He did a whole tranny forum by himself.

What I am more curious on his how the MPG is rated in each car. They say a stock EM1 can get 26 MPG on the city and 31 on the highway. What the hell do they base that on....granny driving? I get about 21-22 MPG in city. I am pretty average when I drive and shifting at every 4K RPM in my EM1.
