Default My 98 EK OBD2 H2B build page

-Thought I'd make a page of my Honda experience.
I traded my truck for a OBD2 h2b EK. It is in GREAT condition. The guy i bought it from said it only needed a vss sensor and it would run perfect. The problem is/was the vtec was not engaging, so it would not rev past 2500. Me being quite naive i did the trade. Being a dumb a** a simply bought a vss, put it and absolutely nothing happened. So this is my effin conquest to get this damn car on the road. Oh yeah I supposedly got the car from a HONDA-Tech! I went to college for automotive but decided a different path in life but still LOVE cars.

A little about the car.
98 Civic DX
evo H2B kit
stock H22A engine
B16 trpe-R Hydro tranny
4-1 header

So I start learning EVERYTHING about the car and start taking everything apart to figure it out. When i got it there was a obd2b engine harness (obd2a car) hooked up to a p05 (del sol OBD1 ecu, only A and D connectors were plugged into the ecu) which had a burn on one of the capacitors about the size of a dime (never even socketed). It was like the guy bought a h22a jdm engine obd2b and just put it in the car.

What Im doing to get this thing going.
I got the rosko im kit to use obd2 290 sat injectors on euro-R intake manifold.
obd2a harness
p5m ecu- That WILL work
Everything on the crank H22a4
oil pump, crank sensor, crank sensor gear, timing gear, and water pump timing covers (h22a4)
egr
d16 egr purge soleniod
distributor (obd2)
Alternator (obd2)
-I cant think right now but I'm pretty sure that's all.

Get everything installed, fire and INSPECT (no sniffer only checks for ecu monitors)- then remove all the hard work and go obd1. -repeat every year for inspection. Typing it I know it probably sounds crazy but it will be worth it.

you don't have to undo anything to go obd 1 just buy a jumper harness for obd2a to obd1 and plug in a chipped ecu

I think i got a 96 (told it was 98) civic harness (no A7/ egr/org) so im going to get a 97-98 harness -again.
Im trying to figure out this distributor thing. my harness 96 dx has an 8 pin distributor and the distributor I have (obd2) has a 4 wire and 2 wire plug. I think I am missing something. on the h22a4 harness is there 3 plugs (power, dist, and coil) or is it one plug to dist (power) then a jumper from coil to dist. I think rywire makes a jumper harness but there's 2 plugs for dist and 1 plug for ckp/tdc sensor but no electrical plug for ext coil I have 4 plug spots (incl ckp sensor) and the conv harness only has 3 plugs. If someone had obd2 prelude how is your coil and dist hooked up. In pics it looks like all 3 plugs (dist and ext coil) are on the harness (if there is a jumper than there would be no place for the 4 wire plug on rywire harness). I'm going to call them in a bit. Any help would be appreciated OR if someone has a h22 civic swap harness they'd be willing to part with .

96-98 harness are all the same. no civic came with an egr valve except for the hx so the harness won't have any pin's for it and some preludes have an dizzy with an internal coil maybe try one of them. or you can just remove the power and ground from the dizzy plug and hook it to the coil.

I called rywire today. What im going to do is use the h22a jdm distributor with internal coil, use a jumper to 10 pin (actually have), and I should be good to go. wire everything up. I did look and I cant find just the egr plug (female). If someone went obd1 but still using obd2 harness id buy the plug if you'd wanna snip your harness. I believe its a 3 wire. what are the colors of the wires so I can look them up. I'm just guessing: orange, brown and ground.
-The only other differences on the harnesses is c29 on civic its clutch switch signal and on h22 its pnp switch signal. Are they the same thing? PNP? park/neutral? only for A/T?
Otherwise I'm wiring this thing tomorrow!
