first things to do in any situation is check for air fuel and spark, make sure it has those then move from there. the first thing i have always done when buying used cars is give it a tune up and oil change. mis fire could just be bad spark plug, wires, or distributor cap

your foot slipping off the clutch pedal won't cause the car to not start again....your problem has got to be that misfire

It sounds like its uber tired in the engine department. im guessing with the conversion into kms from miles its over 300000k on that engine and trans. If youre planning on using it as a project i would start by pulling it out instead of pulling your hair out trying to troubleshoot various issues with it. Thats my opinion.

Ahhh solid call. Perhaps its the distributor or an O2 causing the misfire.

another thing to check is whether or not the battery is putting out enough charge and whether or not the alternator is working. i have a vw corrado that had a bad battery would turn over but not start . i checked for air fuel and spark had all three but because the computer wasnt recieving enough power it was like a alzheimer patient that didnt know what was going on.

there you go! if you're cheap pull dis. cap, clean up see what happens. personally i would change spark plugs wires dis. cap/ rotor. its not expensive and from the way you describe the previous owners it should be the first thing done. if that dasent work come on back and we'll help

do cap/plug/wire/rotor, or change the dist in case the coil went, check fuel pressure by cracking the fitting on the rail or filter case, sounds like the timing skipped
