Default Need help-msd related

So I'm finally getting my hatch back on the road with a new motor but I ran in to a little trouble. I decided to move my msd inside behind/under the passenger seat to get it outta my engine bay. When I go to start the car I have no spark, but all the lengthend wires and connectors are good. The weird thing is that when I accidently touched a ground wire to the msd box (I had it out the passenger door and in the bay to test the wires) it sparked. The box itself shouldn't have any current running through it right? I was thinking maybe the positive (thick red) wire running from the fuse box to the msd has a short in the box? And the ground cable touching the box from the negative battery post completed the circuit? Let me know what you think, do I need a new msd?
