Default Mounting aftermarket header to stock exhaust... HELP!

I have a 97 LX.

Just so i don't get flamed, this is why i'm doing it... Aftermarket header on ebay is $50 shipped. Cat was clogged. Enough said.

I don't feel like spending the money on an aftermarket exhaust right now. Here's the deal. The header has a 2-1/4" collector. The stock size is 1-3/4". Obviously they don't fit very good. What are my options for something fast? How bad of an idea would it be to make it a solid connection using an adapter and good clamps? I would have to cut the flange off of the header AND the exhaust, but that would be the easy fix. Could a muffler shop weld a bigger flange on? Kinda looking for something within 2 days, so ordering something is kinda outta the question. Actually, I just thought about overnighting a 2-1/4" flex pipe off of ebay. Thoughts?

What kind of header did you get? I don't know a manufacture that would make a 2 1/4 collector for the sohc. Most aftermarket headers should have just bolted straight up. I'd just eat the $50 and go get a factory EX manifold and bolt it straight up. It will have both o2 sensor holes and cops will never mess with you.

I've never heard of a cop messing with anyone for a header/no cat... I'm honestly a little stumped on how a cop whould know if i had a header/lack of cat to begin with.

Anyways... I went to midas even though I hate them with a passion. The guy said he couldn't weld on a bigger flange without the car. Riiiiiiight. But he ended up giving me, yes GIVING me, another doughnut and spring kit. I was really shocked. I havn't started the car yet, so I don't know if it leaks yet, but it looks like it's seating a lot better than the doughnut that came with the header. We'll see if it works.

I think what he's talking about is if you leave the cat out its going to be loud as hell, and with header making more flow it will make it even more loud, if you have a stock muffler it wont be too bad but if its aftermarket your car is going to be louder than you want and extremely raspy, you can get a stock-ish cat off ebay for 50 bucks or less if your looking for cheap.

My advice is put the header on yourself because the muffler shop will rape you on the charge of installtion, drive it down straight off the header (watch for cops ) and just say.. make it work. whoever your taking it too should have enough experience (commen sense even) to make it work.
