Default Motor Swap... Need suggestions...

Hey guys... I own a 94 Hatch... I am curious on swaps... I am pretty knowledgeable on motors and what not... But when it comes right too it, Id like to know whats the most bang for the buck... I was thinking of going with my friends setup, a H23 with a H22 tranny... Although, a friend I trust and have known for a long time has a b16a which has been detuned of its vtech, and that thing rocks!!! For 3k, he told me he would do the entire swap, engine harnesses, all that good stuff... Currently, I have a D16Y8 or something of the sort, its non vtech, I know the 7 is the vtech model... Just curious on what you guys think... The H23 with the H22 tranny does scream and can catch tires all the way through 4th >< So, its quite hard to make my mind up... With 3-4k, whichever I get for selling 4wheeler, if anyone is interested =P, thats pretty much what Ill have to spend... So, Ill need something fast and decent enough to hold me over until I can afford to change my cams and shafts and all that other engine internal stuff =P Any help would be greatly appreciated... If anyone lives in Virginia, I live about 30 mins. away from Manassas so maybe I could possibly meet up with someone for a few ideas.. Thanks and regards...

if youre so knowledgeable on motors, you'd know its VTEC, not VTECH.

and how exactly did your friend detune a b16 of its VTEC? did he put vtec killer cams or is he a mad tight jdm tuner?

and the d16y7 in non vtec. the d16y8 IS vtec.

Either this guy really has no clue what's what or this is a BS post, there's no way anyone can "emphasize" that many mistakes.

Sorry, I have a D16Y7, not a D16Y8 that was swapped into my car a few weeks before I got due to the fact it was blown... Now, why you would want to swap back the same shitty engine is unknown to me, unless he just couldnt afford a better engine... And, sorry for the VTECH, I wasnt thinking properly, it is VTec =P Anyways, the kid who has the b16a which is detuned of the VTec is a crucial JDM head that lives around my way in his 40's... Ive known the guy for around 10 yrs or more... That thing flies, we got off the ramp and by the time we hit 3rd gear we were already @ 90-100mph... So, his 2nd gear is really really long, probably too long tbh.. But, it does fly... But, I am convinced, the H23 with the H22 tranny is the best swap.... Any ideas??? My friend told me he could get that entire setup with the LSD and engine mounts and some new axles for around 5-6k @ impressive motors... But, that kind of seems a bit steep... So, anything you all can think of that would be the best?? At this point, Im thinking the b16... But, there are too many options availabe... >< The H23 is putting out over 220hp ><

id go for an h22 from http://www.hmotorsonline.
great website

but again, how exactly is the b16 "de-tuned" of its vtec?
do you mean vtec killer cams or what?

exactly! i wanna know what that means. also, if he can really hit 90-100mph before hitting 3rd, is he running an LS tranny with no rev limiter or a custom gear box? generally speaking, 2nd gear on almost all cars (normal cars anyway) will top out in the neighborhood of 60-70mph. if what you are saying is true, where does first gear end?

the price for the setup you mentioned (H23 with H22 LSD tranny) sounds about right but i'm pretty sure you can find it for cheaper than that. i've never heard of an H23 putting out 220HP though, at least not stock anyway. anyway it sounds like a good combo. but some of the things you said are just....yeah

I'm just curious as to why detuning the vtec from a b16 would be beneficial? If I'm not wrong, I believe the b16 makes the majority of its power in the higher rpms when vtec is engaged. Not flaming, just trying to understand the positives to this? Maybe better for turbo? I don't know, you tell me

Anyways, a b20 vtec isn't a bad choice at all, but I would have personally went with Syndacate and used the b16 head...b16 tranny as well (shortest gear ratios out of the b-series trannys). I guess all that depends on your cash flow, the deals you find, and your goals you would like to achieve with the swap. Regardless, good luck

stock vs stock the gsr flows better cause of the higher comp that it makes with the smaller combustion chamber. but yeah b20 is the best bang for the buck but dont expect it to last 100k. get a b16 tranny with ur setup

b20 tranny?

i mean you can do it, but thats some serious fab work. it wont drop right in.

use a gsr or b16 tranny, id recommend gsr because it has great ratios for acceleration (not as good as a b16) but on the freeway you wont be cruising above 4.5k
