Is motor swap is batter than putting turbo in 2000 civic EX
I have 2000 civic EX auto with 26000 miles. I like my car but hate power. So I am think to put new motor or put turbo. Can you guys help me out what is batter. Please tell me how much it will coast me and which turbo or motor is good. If i swap how much i will get for my motor.
I do not want to race but i just want to have fast car for everday drive.

The first honda I ever built was a 92 civic si w/ a SOHC motor. the same one in the EX. Anyways I punched out, forged pistons, rods, all the fixings. Then a T3/T4 turbo. After all theat money and time I wish I would have done a swap first. I now own a 96 civic hatch and swapped a JDM B16A and I am aleready happier with the results. I goning to put a turbo on this motor. The DOHC is a much better platform to start from. But it depends on what kind of power you want.

Re: (JDMB16AEK9)
Get rid of the auto, and do a swap and convert to manual. Then if you aren't completely happy, you can always turbo the dohc vtec motor which has more potential.

Re: (blackhatchy)
If you go turbo then leave you auto tranny(constent boost) But if you do a swap then do the 5 speed conversion. But then again you are not in it to race so just get a B series or H22 then you can save a some money if you get the auto tranny.

Well I understand that you're new, and taking that all into account I think i'd recommend a swap over a boosted SOHC.
Don't get me wrong - aproperly boosted D series can smack the hell out of a nice B swap, but for general purposses I'd never recommend boost to people unfamiliar with what it really takes to boost properly and make it last a long time.
I'd say try a nice B18C1 swap.
Really though what's your budget like? That's the biggest question.

boosting is going to be easier, cheaper and will give you more hp than a swap will. you can get a greedy turbo kit on ebay for less than $2000, a b18c is going to cost you at least $3000 just for the swap, then you need new exhaust can cat, plus labor is going to cost more, and by the end of the day, a boosted d16 is going to make more hp then a stock b18c. just my opinion.

the best thing you can do is research and then determine what it is you want to do. we can sit here and spit out suggestions all day, but you need to realize that this is not a simple process. patience and tolerance is that i can suggest for you now. there is no better feeling then doing it right the first time

So people who speak english as a second languuage should be berated by punk *** kids because they didn't grow up speaking your language... that's informed...
Ever consider maybe he's foriegn?
I'm with b18c5 on this one... turbo could be better if done right but it's not something you want to jump into without an at least decent working knowledge of turbo systems... Do a swap... it's much easier and more reliable for the non tuner.

i would recommend that you do some research on how turbos work and proper set-ups. if you are on a budget, i would say to go with turbo on the y8. i would recommend that you swap out the auto for a 5 speed. i have an auto turbo myself and i am buying parts for the swap.
