Default motor question

I want to build an Ls/vtec motor in the future for my EK, and someone on craigslist is selling a used B18b1 longblock, what are the main things to check for when buying a used longblock, btw the seller said the engine needs new rings and no rod knock.

Can't check too much with the engine out of the car.

If you're going to spend the money on building an LS/Vtec, I would replace all the bearings, rings and gaskets regardless. So when it's torn down, you can take the block and crank to a machine shop to have everything checked. Just good practice when building an engine.

I've got a 99 B18B1 with clean Vin, pm me for details.
