motor oil question?

Default motor oil question?

i have D16y7 with just about 300,000 miles on it. it burns alot of oil. i use 5w-30. i was wondering if i put synthetic oil in my car would it burn less oil? thanks.

Using synthetic may actually make it burn more because the syn has better detergent agents and could breakup oil deposits around seals and such. I don't have proof that this happens, but I have heard of it and it does make some sense. I would switch to 10w-30 or maybe even 10w-40. With mileage that high you definately need something thicker than 5w-30.

edit: are you sure it is actually burning all this oil or is some just leaking externally?

when ever i accelerate hard white smoke comes out of the exhaust.

Yea, I know I put effort in this... but I have the same problem... no smoke, but I burn alot of oil 230,000km... maybe I hit vtec to much?

i have the same problem someone told me that thier is to much fuel going into my cylinders i night have a injector leaking im ot sure if hes right but can this cause my oil to burn up like that
