Default More D16 questions (used the search option already)

Aight have a few questions..

D16y8 and D16z6 - either one bolt up to my d15 tranny? (92 dx) not sure on the code its almost 3 am be nice

Also, would it be wise to keep the d15 tranny or just try and get a d16y8 or z6 tranny?

I'm looking to spend around 3k for swap+home-made turbo kit

I blew my d15 (well not entirely yet) it'd cost around 200 dollars to fix it but I'm just gonna get a swap

Would I just need the longblock in order to do the swap?

Anyone around Atlanta wanna hit me up and help I'd appreciate it

any d series tranny will work.

It's best to use the Y8 or Z6 tranny for closer gearing.

3k for SOHC VTEC and turbo is a good budget for good results

both the z6 and y8 seem to be the same hp and tq numbers, not sure on the tranny gearing of each though
so which is the better?
if I do the swap ALL the parts from my old d series motor would be interchangable..so should there be anything worth keeping?
I plan on just getting a longblock and tranny...any new mounts n what not?

what are the pro's n con's of each motor?
and what should I build first?

The difference between the two trannies is miniscule. Final drive is the main gear affected by the change and regardless of what others say, you don't notice it in my opinion. If you have the option, go with the Y8, depending on what your plans are for it. It has nearly a half of a point compression bump, the Y8 IM is better flowing than the z6, and it will prolly have less miles. Someone correct me if I am wrong but he will be converting over from OBD1 to OBD2 from a d15 to d16y8. You might just want to pick up a P28 ECU if you can and convert from there. As far as the cams go, i wouldn't say one is weaker than the other. You can interchange z6 and y8 camshafts but there is a diff in the sprocket and the key hole so the timing marks read about 4* diff if i remember right. Hope that helped. Good Luck

I was just saying..not really questioning the cam shafts
so the y8 is better...and yes I would be converting so what would I need?

I kinda need a shopping list for dummies for the z6 and the y8 swap and what parts would be recomended to replace

I plan on going turbo ..prolly gonna push around 8psi at first hoping to get 200whp eventually...I don't think this is gonna be too hard

replace all gaskets, seals, pumps (water and oil) get the rebuilt kit from honda with all the belts and the stuff listed above, well not the pumps ofcourse. You are gonna want to run a y8 dist. with a z6 coil. and repin it for odb change. you will need another sensor on the intake if using a p28 also, it can be found on 96 up civics. its like the air temp sender or some ****. I had to get mine off of a 00 si. the swap isnt too bad but there will be a couple of small snags getting the cel codes to go away. pretty easy for the most part but i am also speaking from going from 94 z6 to 99y8

Well the z6 is the better flowing that is why the comp is higher on the y8 and makes the same hp. The z6 is the better flowing you can get any block with a head just make sure that you have the Intake manifold and the disturbotor. Other than that it will switch over. You'll also want a p28. Ask any shop they usely have them lying around i got my 2000d16y7 block for 150 and only had 12k miles on it. Should have a revhard kit very soon

Aight, so I'm planning on going z6 because I think I can find one hella cheap and just rebuild the internals with whatever I decide..
and slap a home-made turbo kit...

No one has really told me much about either one of these motors I hear that both are great and what not but I can't find flow charts or anything
