Modding out a 93 Civic EX. N00b
Yeah so im a n00b to this but I have seen some people really mod their Civics out
and I think my EX has some potential.
So this is my 93 Civic EX. I paid about $3K for this car and it's almost 100% stock other than the fact that it has a DX motor in it and a cold air intake.
I was considering a new paint job and some rims obviously but first I want to focus on the performance of the car. If you were on a budget what are some upgrades you would do to this car to increase its performance or to get more horsepower without breaking the bank?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

nice car. I loved my ej1, but i had a gsr .. bought my ej1 stock, otherthen a gsr swap for 3g's. but still you got a ok deal
what iw ould do, with your budget is you could, peice together a turbo kit, which will cost you under a grand if you search, ask friends for parts, and with the tunnin it will run you around 1600, if searched well.
or you could always swap the motor, a LS is a great platform to start with, cheap, torquey, stong.

Why would it have a less powerful motor than stock? Was the original blown? Looks nice, love white 2drs. Get some wheels(if you want) and nice tires (tires can be a performance upgrade believe it or not).
If you are gonna be looking for power I would not put any money into building that engine unless you wanna go forced induction. Otherwise i would swap it out, easiest cheap swap without breaking bank would be a B16, but it does not make as much power as can be made through other routes.
Also if you plan on going fast, think about brakes, suspension, and even making sure everything else on the car is safe and in wokring order. Good luck with the car!

go jet engine..... vroom,vroom............. if that doesnt work, it all depends on what you want. how much power . and how tight is your budget. i would build the single cam. is it the d16z6?

If you know someone who can do engine internals, a cam and higher comp pistons (research a good combo) will put you in B16A territory ans still be nice and reliable.
Bolt-ons are pointless, because who gives a crap about a 140hp 2500lbs Civic???
However, if you put your money into a good suspension setup (research that, too--have it involve Koni shocks for my $.02) you'll literally transform the car. Suspension mods are very noticeable--gains from bolt-ons are not.
Look into some good security options after you mod it (might not be a bad idea to do this while it's stock)

i dont really like tan interiors on white cars
other then that it is clean and nice
first thing you should do is get some new suspensions and wheels...it will make your car look cleaner, also it will be more fun to drive

i have the EXACT same car buddy... dropped a JDM b16 and run 14.9.... really fun car to drive. you will love it i guarantee it. ill post some pics for ya later

i would say just save for a motor swap, if you are really worried about the performance dont spend any money on the d and just save for a swap, wheels and a drop would also make it look much better, good luck with it

I initially missed the DX motor comment.
You have a CAI on it. That's about all that's worth sinking your money into.
Suspension. Done.

if this is first build. source a z6 swap and boost. if you blow it there pretty cheap to. i had a z6 n/a semi built and it was a really fun motor.

u mean a new engine?it will be cheaper to buy the turbo set up or b ,h ,f series swap.it depends on how much your budget is, and the labor to do a swap by a mechanic shop is around $500~$700

go get a d16z6 ( the motor that sopouse to be in the car) get like an eclipse turbo civic hx mainifold ebay intercoller piping bov upgrade ur fuel system get a good tune and u should have around 200 whp. it wil be a nice reliable and some what fast car

Can you even find them new?
Or do most people buy used?
Are d16z6's hard to find?
I looked on ebay and found some used d16z6's for around $500-700 + $150 Shipping.
Should I consult a local engine dealer?

Oh yeah, what would a decent mechanic charge to install a d16z6 including all necessary components?
Just curious, I am considering having this done but I thought you guys would have a good idea as to what I might be looking at.
I have about $1k saved and I am considering a couple different possibilities, upgrading the motor is one of them.

there is no reason to have a shop handle a z6 swap... its all basically going to be plug and play.. and you already have a Ex model.. so the vtec wiring should already be there.. all you will technically need is the engine it self and the p28 ecu.... even for a noob you should be able to handle it with a few friends!

if i had to pay 25k id just buy a used elise and say expletive the honda world becuase i have to be associated with ricers and people from this site. im difrrent, i dont jdm out my cars, and i dont put bodykits on my cars, i just make them fast something people on here dont like doing

i would stick with just suspension work at the moment. Get some nice rims/tires and do little exterior work. If you have the money for a motor $2k+...then swap...if not do suspension.
