Misshift: Never thought it would happen to me
Last night i was driving home from Virginia to New Jersey. I was merging onto the highway in virginia and i was at about 7500 rpms in 3rd when i shifted into what i thought was fourth. It turned out to be 2nd. The rpms went up to about 9-10000 before i slammed the clutch to the ground. I almost pissed my pants. I shifted immediately into 5th. I was amazed that the car still felt fine. the motor still pulled strong. and i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. I drove another 300 miles to my house. It was about 10 miles from my house when i noticed there was something wrong. The car was idling like a mustang. Also it was extremely hard to get the car into any gear. I had to rev the engine and slip it into gear when the rpms were right. also the clutch is a bit shaky and it catches real low now. there is alot of vibration when i release the clutch in first or second. The clutch feels mushy too. Also this morning i started the car up and it was in neutral but if i let my foot off the clutch it would stall like it was in gear. That doesnt happen anymore though. Anyways i just drove it 300 miles back to Virginia. The motor still pulls as strong as ever. What could i have done? I was planning on getting an Si tranny soon. Maybe it will be sooner.

over revving will cause valve float and possibility of Mr. PISTON meeting Miss. VALVE for the first time and violent love thereafter.

Probably blasted your whole clutch/tranny set-up. Your motor should be ok, I see my boys at Honda rev 'other' people's cars to 9 grand all day long..they say, 'no it's aight, it's aight".

do a compression check on your engine to see the extent of the damage, if there is any at all. bad idle after overrevving is a sign of bend valves, but a compression test will tell for sure.

valves are the only thing that could have been damaged? besides the fucked up idle the engine runs great.

if your gsr has normal 200-220psi compression in all cylinders youre with oem tolerance.
BUT if you do test and get:
210 210 180 210
you damaged valves in cylinder #2
you can still drive with it b/c it sell makes compression, but the car will not make same whp numbers as before

Man I did the same thing on the highway the other day, only I shifted from 5th to 2nd thinking it was 4th. My car does the idle thing now. But it has stopped for now...

my friend did the exact same thing to his girlfriends gsr. everything was the same. trans problems, idling problems. took the car apart. the stock pressure plate fingers were damaged(trans problem) and all exhaust valves were bent. the engine still ran fine driving it but the valves were bent slightly. new valves and clutch and it was fine again.

Re: (stackz)
I know someone who misshifted a couple of times and didn't float any valves, but he did break his pressure plate. If you're having serious clutch problems, that is what I would suspect.
