Mini-Me Timing Question and more...
ok, i have a y7 bottom end with a p-08 head (z6??)...the cam gear is five spoke (i was told this was y8??) i have no idea what cam is in there and i need to set the timing. i have read that the y8 and z6 cams have differant timing...my timing marks on dead on and it wont run....it has spark, fuel, and the computer works, no cels and the timing belt is a little loose. i think it jumped timing but i dont know where to set the cam gear.
can anyone tell me if it needs to be set "wrong" and by how much? or what head i have? if you need any pics just ask and ill take em.
thanx.

Check the year of the head if its anything older then 96 then its a y8. If you still have your original y7 head check the cam gear on it because y7 and y8 share the same gear. What belt are you using as well.

Re: Mini-Me Timing Question and more... (Luserkid)
i baught the car this way so i have no idea. if i did it myself i would have just looked and the combustion chambers. the head was made in 95 if i read it right...so that means it could have been an early model 96 ex or a late model 95 ex....the cam gear is 5 spoke, which i was told by someone is a y8 if is a y7/8 cam gear and a z6 cam than the timing marks arent lined up at perfect timing...right?

i was told that the z6/y8 cam gears had differant timing marks...my timing is set dead on...the problem is i dont think it should be dead on because of the wrong gear on the head....my question in which way do i set the timing off and by how many degrees/teeth?
