Default Mini-me question

i recently heard that from a y7 head to a y8 ill raise my compression. is that true? will the z6 do the same. I want to keep, if not lower compression for my low boost/vtec setup.

thanx

yes, it'll do the same.. but are you wanting to put a z6 head on a y7 block?? the timing will be different if you do this.. they won't raise the compression a whole lot though...

The Y8 head gives more compression than a Z6. Not much, but regardless, it does. Also, the timing is like 1/2 tooth off between the Z6 and Y8. Which direction you may ask? I don't know.
The Y8 and Y7 use the same bottom end I believe. So, it's not really a mini me. The bad part about the Z6 is they require the stupid Z6 distributor like the one I'm selling, and the Z6 fuel rail does not fit on a Y8 intake manifold, or at least mine didn't. With enough Duck Tape, I'm sure it could be done, but that goes without saying.

the z6 will give you less of a compression bump and will flow better when/if you boost. but yes you will need a z6 dizzy, dont worry you can just pull the pins out of the obd1 plugs and put them in the obd2 plug, they dont fit 100% but its close enough. and if y ou can get a 96-98 y8 intake manifold, do so. (DO NOT GET A 99-00 OR AN AUTO Y8 MANIFOLD! ! !) also if your swapping heads and changing compression you should be getting a cam gear and a tune, so who cares if the timing is off by 1/2 tooth? let your tuner worry about that.

all he has to do is take all the internals out of a y8 dizzy and put them in a z6 dizzy or vise versa.. I know that there are a few ppl on here that said they tried to re-pin the z6 dizzy to the y8 and it didn't work.. so I would just change all the internals from one to the other... it would be better to get the dizzy fixed right the first go round.. freakasis is right just get it tuned after you get it built and it should be fine.. they'll tune it in correctly..

well, i repinned one and all i had to do was cut some rubber with a razor. the pins didnt lock in right but they stayed in well enough to plug it in, and i wasnt gonna be taking it off an on several times. and its easier than taking the dizzy apart. either way will work.

yeah, but if they didn't lock in right then they could come out anytime, NOT saying that it will, just saying that if he wants it to be in there i'd just take it apart and swap internals, but yeah.. either way will work and i'm hoping the best of luck to the OP on this build...
