mini me noob question..
hello there
i currently have a d16y8 bone stock and everything, well 2 months ago i replaced the rod bearings and ran great till about 2 week ago when the motor decided to knock again.. well took it all apart then found out that my main bearings were shot to hell so i replaced the one's off the cradle and not the one's between the block and the crank due to fitment issues.. (i did this from under the car) well got rid of some of the knock and now im thinking the crank is damaged. so i found a cheap y7 bottom with a spun rod im going to basically rebuild this bottom end and just install my y8 head on it.. is there anything that i need to know about this swap? i heard that its a bolt in application and all i need to do is to bolt the head on etc etc.. i currently have the y8 on a ej and its converted to obd1 p28 ecu...
any input would be awesome

Re: mini me noob question..
Before you do any of that, did you even know that if there's damage on any of the journals from either a spun rod or main bearing you'd need to have it measured to see if it's repairable before installing a new bearing? Also, did you know that the tolerances are measured into the ten thousandths range for bearings? In your post you never mentioned measuring anything or inspecting anything. If you don't do this on a rotating assembly that is KNOWN to have spun a bearing you are not fixing anything at all when you replace the bearings.

Re: mini me noob question..
^Yep, u need to take the crank to the machine shop and have it checked, more times then not the journal gets egg shaped and out of round. The good news is 9 time out of 10 u can have the journals resurfaced and it will work fine.

i never got the cranked checked but i used plastiguage.. eveything looked fine like no egging or what so ever but i coudnt check the mains due to i cant get to the upper one's also there was a **** ton of material on the oil pan and the pick up from the main's the rods looked great when i checked it.. im getting this y7 with a knock so im taking the crank to the machine shop and have then polish it..

Plasi-gauge won't really tell u if the crank journals r out of round and u won't be able to c it with ur eye or feel it with ur hand. If ur ditching the y8 and using the y7 bottom end then u'll get all ur answers when u take it to the machine shop.
