Mini-me no power after cam gear f'ed
92 civic HB, a6 bottom, z6 head, "vision" adj cam gear.
a couple month ago my cam gear had spun on my cam. it was a cheap egay one (I know). junkped 2 teeth on the cam and f'ed the keyway on the gear.
I had the vision cam gear from when I bought the head, put it on, crank timing dead on, the mark on the cam gear at 7 o'clock is dead on as well. With the old gear I had to adv the gear 4.75* for the belt to go on, but not with the vision gear. HOWEVER, with the crank and cam set at 0* dead on, the car has a little power when it's cold, but then once going down the road, I lose a lot of power and it acts as if it's being held back, if I adv the cam gear to 4.75* I get more power, but it'll backfire when moving and no throttle. randomly it will lose power and start backfiring (not loud) and I have to either baby it, or put the pedal on the floor to keep it having some power.
Before I had issues with the cam gear, the car ran GREAT, no issues and plenty of power (for a d series). I also have to have the dizzy turned all the way back towards the firewall, before and now.

I did time it up, the cheap gear I got off ebay had the same markings in the same spots as the vision gear I had. I timed it with #1 at TDC, and the cam gear pointing where the z6 markings are.
I have read and tried to find as much info as I could BEFORE I even did a mini-me swap. Couldn't find pics of exact timing settings or very much info on a a6/z6. Everything I did find just told me to adv the gear 4.75*

even before when it ran good, it would run alright with the dizzy set in the middle, but not very much power at all, so I set it all the way back and it had a lot more power.
I had a timing light, but for the life of me I cant find it.

on my way home today. while barely pulling a hill, my CEL came on for code 43. I reset the ecu and changed it with another known good one i had (P28). code hasn't come back... yet. So i'll see what that does. I also checked my TPS sensor and that tested fine.

Get rid of the adjustable cam gears, get OEM solid gears, time your motor CORRECTLY, do a compression test to make sure you didn't bend any valves, and stop fiddling with things you don't fully understand. There is absolutely zero reason for you to be clocking a stock cam, especially without the proper tuning hardware.

valves are not bent, already had the head off, new OEM Honda valve seals, new OEM headgasket (y8) . Lapped the valves. Before I got it running again, compression was 150 across the board (when it was cold). I've been busy this week and haven't had a lot of time to do very much.
I'm using the adj gear because I don't have any others atm. Even with the adj, as of now everything is set at 0*
How don't I "fully" understand anything, I'm not like everyone else, I do my research and learn and have done what is told about mini-me's from every other thread I have read.
The issue is, the timing and everything are RIGHT where they where when it ran correctly, but now it has loss of power and no running right. All I ask for is other ideas that I haven't or am not thinking of right now. I barely ever come on here and ask for help unless I'm at a loss because all everyone on here does is complain when someone asks for help (understand when people ask simple questions a google search would answer) And I try to help others out with knowledge that I have.

Getting indignant is not very ingratiating, and won't get your problem solved any faster. You've been unbolting and rebolting most of your engine, and according to your own posts, you haven't put a timing light to it yet. Stop trying to butt dyno it, and set it within spec, the right way.

Found my timing light, with cam and crank at 0* dizzy needs to be roughly 3/4 of the way counterclock-wise. With it there, still has no power, barely will pull a hill.
happy? I put a timing light and where it is suppose to be, doesnt work.
when i say it has no power, i mean i almost have to get out and push it up a hill.

blah blah, falme away.
Finally got some time to do a few more tests. compression test yielded
1- 140
2- 120
3- 75
I didn't even do #4, i may be trading spare b16 trans for a complete Z6 swap.
