mini me..b7/z6 head - smoke, pop, engine went dead
ok didi the mini me swap. everything was going good until i tried to start it up. it ran for a couple of seconds but i seen smoke coming from timing side so i ran to turn it off. right before i go to the ignition, i heard a small pop like a misfire or something then the engine went dead. any ideas? i have another z6 head that im going to put just in case. tdc on both block and head. running fine and sounded good but then the smoke and pop.

Re: mini me..b7/z6 head
I just installed everything on the head..i.e. gaskets, coolant..so will i have to drain and get new gaskets when i unbolt and put the new new head on? i know somebody has a answer to my question, please help. dont want to put the new new head on and the same things happen again.

no you can still use your headgasket you should change it if you put about 30 miles on it atleast to break it in then you would need a new head gasket.but sence you never even drove it for a good amount of time you can still use the gasket.

Re: mini me..b7/z6 head
ok..now my timing is off by maybe 1 or 2 teeth. How do i go by correcting it? Do i have to set both block and head back to tdc or can i just adjust the head?

you will have to set the block back to tdc and then set the cam to tdc...i just went outside and fixed my timing on my hatch because it was stutering and now it pulls like a stalion again but goodluck bro

Re: mini me..b7/z6 head
I did the build and finished it up last night. I tried to fire it this morning and no go, i got the SAME results. its turning but not cranking, makes a whining sound but no start. I dont hear my starter clicking.. but i smell something.

Re: mini me..b7/z6 head - smoke, pop, engine went dead
I know this is an old thread, but you do realize that the b7 block is a 1.5 and the z6 head is a 1.6, best bet is use the timing belt from the z6, or adjustable cam gears
