mike's 94_eg project
Finally decided to put together a build thread, thinking that I could justify all my time wasted (happily lol) on the car. Basically an ex shell full options, *hindsight* single stage paint hides a body of lies, looking back on it... (insert rant here). But I love it now
I have a few diy's that I'll get to soon enough, as well as a few things I still need to fix but here she is.
Somewhat of an Index
Post 1: First Day, engine pull/install, ignition wire travesty, beginning of an alarm install
Post 4: Alarm install, dash removed, exhaust welded up. (No pictures taken while working, sorry)
Post 5: Nothing really, quick junkyard visit (might end up being all of my junkyard pictures)
Post 6: Si rim therapy (lots of pictures of rims being sanded)
Post 8: Finished wheels
Page1: First day, sorry no pics while working I really just went to town on this thing
Anyways I'll just be throwing up pics and I will try to keep it organized. Well on to the pics...
I got the car brought it home, burned a lot of oil, the guy said it was
a quart a week so you can imagine the first thing I did...
Really wished I cleaned up the bay when it would have been much easier, oh well.
I'm not a big fan of tint on honda's so after the motor was out I took off all of the tint.
Stance lol with a 4dr hood, pay no attention to the waves on the door.
How she sat for a while, a very very long while, typical reasons, car funds were diverted but its all good now
No install pics but hey there's a gsr head
Working on the rocks is awful, car kept sinking into the ground and any dropped bolt/nut was a lost cause.
Exedy
Stock used parts belong in the dirt
Would definitely recommend a 4 puck unsprung clutch, nice hard shifts, although stop and go traffic gets to be a pain after a while. I've heard of people lining the clutch up by hand but why risk it, the clutch alignment tool cost like $2.
Cleaning the gsr trans
I was told gsr front spindles
Ain't no rest for the wicked, determined to get it all together
No I did not do that to the valve cover, it should have been an indication of crap. Several threads were stripped on the head,so I spent $250 having the exhaust helicoiled and a few on the cam caps, again an indication of a crap head
Sanded some of the valve cover to get the cuts and digs from someone using a die grinder
But this is what I really wanted to do...
I got the wrinkle paint from advance auto, this was only the first coat
After the motor was running I had to make some room for her
She just barely fits, inches all around (there is a wall on the left side)
~5 inches to the rear door
Her first real wash
*It was a free front bumper, didn't have to be perfect, just had to make up for the missing one
Off topic but what I used to play the heck out of..
At the shop for some diagnostic work, head seemed like it didn't have compression, distributor cel's, and a crappy running motor all around
Compression was way off, low and off. So I pulled the head and went back to the b20 head. Turns out the gsr head had previously been shaved down to far and the piston came up and tapped the head so the $350 head + $250 for the head work = $600 that I could have wasted on more enjoyable things like beer haha. Was also told not to use the copper head gasket spray on the mls gaskets, any one use it?
I think its a beautiful car and hopefully I can get her looking as good as I see her
Oh did I mention I relocated the battery, ya I'm awful at pics while I'm working
Had a problem with intermittent start when using the key, changed starters a few times but a plausible reason was found....
I'm shocked at the lack of intelligence some people possess, by the amount of cuts I was guessing maybe two previous alarm installs

Re: mike's 94_eg project
Or so you thought?! I'm on the edge of my seat, way to leave with a cliffhanger!
Nice project there man. It'll definitely be a sweet car by the time you're done. I'm so glad someone else hates the tint as well, I thought it was just me!

Getting an alarm installed with all the extras
A clean install is easier with the dash out lol
Sometimes its just easier this way
An alarm is only as good as its sensors and the overall install
I asked if he could put the antenna in a hard to reach spot, looks nice at night with the blue light
Eye candy, Spoon
At the stage where its a daily so the exhaust needs to get welded up

Re: mike's 94_eg project
Typical Honda problem, aparently when you lower them you have to dig the jack into the ground to jack the car up haha
How could this ever end up in a junkyard
No more room to park the car in the garage so I did the next best thing
What other people have to look at, such a handsome man lol

Re: mike's 94_eg project
^^Thanks and ya guys I got it going but I'll get to that later
Just a shot I like
So the car is running great, whats next... These traumatized si's, with time to focus on looks I finally noticed how bad these rims were.
This was after I started sanding by hand with I think 80 or 100 grit
A little something like this
Uh very nice lol
I was surprised at how well these were starting to look
BAM
I was getting better at this take pictures while working thing
The finished product?
I'm sure you get the picture by now lol but just look
So I decided to keep sanding but I moved to the grass, got a bucket, a
cooler full of beer which made a nice seat and got back to work
Closer to a finished wheel

Re: mike's 94_eg project
Yikes, those rims are pretty bad. I had good luck smoothing out the worst of that stuff with a set of rims I had lying around. Then I shined them up with rouge and a buffer.

There are a few shots of the car that I like so I'll just throw them in here and there and I love this one
With "new" rims
I am in dire need of weatherstripping
Night shots:
I thinks its just the position I took the pic at, the output is a lot more even than it seems
I think I might have a few too many pictures on the first page lol but I got flamed on my other thread for not enough work so I'll leave it at this. Let me know if I do and I'll space the pictures out after I get some feedback from h-tech

Re: mike's 94_eg project
This may be the ugliest car I have ever seen. I despise the bumper, the fenders, the remains of that spoiler.... it just makes me shiver.
BTW: GREAT job on those rims! What grit(s) were you using?

Re: mike's 94_eg project
I think 100 to knock it down to something smoother, followed by 200, 320, 400 and wetsanded 800. I had a few sheets of all of these for body work so I just messed around with it until I got what I wanted.

Hard Clutch Line to Braided Flex Line
Just a quick update. Clutch felt light and then promptly gave out completely. I push it to the side of the road, pop the hood,
notice fluid on the trans near the flex hose, check the reservoir and its dry. Walk into the convenient store that I conveniently broke down
in-front of and got some brake fluid. Bled it and babied her home. Took off the clutch line and found a small slit in the flex line so I decided to
upgrade the entire line
What I got to replace the old line - clutch line had previously been fixed, the end is a ferrell union
(2) of these. You could also get a 90* swivel or whatever you want but this honestly works fine
Get the reservoir out of the way
Take out the old line, tighten the new braided line and run however you see fit, I had more than I needed 6ft where 4ft might have tucked
better for that clean look
The other end goes into the slave like so
I wasn't going for a tucked look, I needed the car to go to school/work the next day
Total cost: ~ $35.xx
Total time: 5 minutes + time to bleed the clutch so ~25 minutes
Worth it?: It is, you loose some of the stiffness when going to flex but I got used to it after a few shifts. But this should last longer and
when I decide to tuck it will be a nice addition
