Might get this 92. What you guys think?
I don't know much about civic's or honda's in general but I'm looking to get one. This one seems pretty clean but a little high on price. Any thing I should definitely look out for on this and what do you guys think of it?

papers on rebuilt/swapped motor?, major tune up done?, you can check if the clutch is still good by going from 1st go to like 25 to 30 mph or something of that sort and shift to 5th gear to see if it still grabs..if it does clutch is good, and theirs other things as well.. suggested you should bring someone mechanically inclined..price seems a bit high imo..try getting it for a little less!

Well you are just in jersey so if you troll cragslist a lot you've prob seen it. I got a little more info on the car. The guy told me the motor was rebuilt at 80,000 miles by his friend. The friend rebuilt it cause he was gonna run low boost on a freshly rebuilt stock motor but changed his mind and went with a b series. Says the rings and bearings, valve guides, water pump, and timing belt were all done with the rebuild. Now I know you guys are gonna say see if he has paper work of the rebuild but I figure if it was rebuilt and 50,000 miles later its still running good then the rebuild is good. What you think?

He said he has receipts of the new parts he put in and that's when he put the motor in which was 4500 miles ago. But no receipts of the rebuild.

I'm gonna check it out. The guy doesn't seem sketchy so I think I believe him. Lets just say in the case that he isn't lying and the motor was rebuilt. Is that a good price or is it high?

It all depends on the area you live in. You'll get mixed answers. I wouldn't buy it. Look for hacked wiring in the engine bay and in the cabin. That would be the first sign that you need to pass on it.

its seems sketchy that he spent all this money and time on rebuilding it it just to say "screw it" and go with a different motor. looks clean though.
if i were you, i'd check the oil to see if its chocolate milky, look for any leaks, look for any half *** jobs, then take it for a spin and question every little thing that you dislike. price is def high. i'd offer him 1000 and go from there

I personally would not pay 2500 for it...I might give 1600-1800 for it. And thats if I believe its rebuilt! I'm in ATL though...you can get a good/decent 92-95 coupe/4door for pretty cheap. What does the body look like? Either way...its a HONDA even if it breaks down...its cheap to fix. Especially if you do it yourself. You can get a good used Z6 motor for 400-600 bucks. Anyways do what you want!

fonker: thanks but your in texas. cetcivic: hahah. I think I'll buy it anyway if I really want it.
He's sending me more pictures tomorrow of the body on it. I'm guessing he'll send me other ones too cause I asked for quite a few. We'll see. I'm really thinking its legit. If I can get the money by this weekend I'm gonna go look at it cause its a few hours from me.

Looks like you want it regardless but talk the guy down cause the last time I registered a 95 civic the presumptive value placed on a 95 by the state of texas was around 1800 so I imagine a 92 is lower so you might want to consider the fact that you will be paying more than its actually worth

Oh I'm definitely talking him down. Just judging by what I know and see as of right now I want it. Of coarse its a different story once I see it.

yeah true, of the cars that I have sold the one buyer that really knew what he was looking at actually took my car (with me in it) for a long drive (like on the highway for about 40 miles round trip) this guy was a mechanic and I considered this wise since you can see overheating or other issues that you might not see on a short spin around the block--needless to say he bought the car since it had no issues

I imagine he was gonna pay for the gas if he didn't buy it? I'm definitely gonna look it over really really good though.

Re: Might get this 92. What you guys think?
I would definitely not buy that one, Im gonna be selling a 99 ex clean no rust with a greddy turbo kit on it for 3500 so I mean that seems really high for a car that has rust and may or may not have been rebuilt.

It's craigslist. He put the price up at $2500 because he knows people will lowball him. I'd say go from $2000 and work from there IF YOU BELIEVE THE ENGINE IS ACTUALLY REBUILT.
Plus it has cancer on it. I could find a clean no rust original 4 door EX with less than 150,000 miles in Wisconsin for around $2000-$2500.
$2500 for a eg sedan with rust is asking quite a bit.
