You need to convert to the EX/SI style exhaust which places the cat converter under the car as opposed to embedded within the OEM manifold.

I used to have a civic back in the day with a y7 and when I bought a header for it it eliminated the cat all together. If I remember correctly it reached all the way to the cat back and bolted right up, granted I did have an aftermarket catback on the car and not the stock exhaust. Just try it out and if it doesnt reach then you could always get a test pipe or something to make up the distance to the catback.

All of it is a waste of money. Especially on a Y7.

How so? Still deciding on a way to go, but theres a little voice in my head is telling me to go n/a single cam and see what i can build there. Ill probably buy cheap parts first then save up more for the real things. y8 head on the way

N/A single cam? Maybe you get 150hp. Hope you have deep pockets. Mini-me swap. Not a real performance gain. Sorry. I've actually done the research.

You can go N/A if you want to but even a mild turbo build will DESTROY any single cam N/A build at a fraction of the cost.

Op i actually Just dropped a y8 with a ex tranny (old tranny bell housing cracked stumbled onto this on cl) i did the swap for Just about 700, 600 for motor and tranny and couldnt be happier with my end result then again i have a borg warner k04 strapped to it and crack vtec at 4grand so the lower geared tranny is amazing but still a stock full swap does wonders for your possibilities.

i'm not going to bash you for doing this cause i just did this to my y7 only because i found brand new DC header and highflow cat for around $150 all together on CL.

The header will bolt straight to your stock exhaust. you will throw a CEL because you dont have a cat, if you need to comply to emissions you will need to cut your stock exhaust and weld in a cat and run the 02 sensor to it. IMOH i feel more low to mid range power now with my header and high flow cat.

IF you do turbo a y8 you have to shim and port the housing as the y8 pumps dont flow well enuff. Lots of guys were spinning 4th rod bearings... A turbo single slam witll always beat a N/a one any day... IF you want N/a get a B series or H

Thanks for all the replys. Have a friend with a y8 head and ecu for 150 so was probably going to do that. Not expecting to have no Single Cam v8 killer but want it to sound and feel good. After this header Think im going to start saving for this ls block i found with ctr pistons and b16 tranny, only $900.
