Default McGard Wheel Lock Key

Using a very large breaker bar I managed to break the key for my McGard wheel locks. Well I've already got another key coming in, but I've been wondering about something. When I do need to remove that wheel lock with the new key, will the force required to remove the wheel lock cause the new key to break? I just figure that the same force (that broke the other key) will be needed to break the wheel lock loose. Any other way of loosening the wheel lock if that is the case? Thanks...

dude i have had two of those key lugs break and it sucks. now the damn wrench key piece that goes on the lugs is messed up. those things are more trouble than they are worth. Granted they keep thieves from stealing your rims, but i think im just going to get rid of the key ones and replace them with the regular ones.

if you properly torque your lug nuts to the factory spec which is 80 ftlbs you can loose those nuts without using a breaker bar...

i have 4 locking lug nuts on all four corners never a problem... maybe the dealer is putting them on too tight or something...

I definately learned my lesson in regards to taking the time to torque the bolts, rather than just slamming them on with a breaker bar.

Anyone have an answer to my question about my new key breaking when I try to remove the lug the old key broke on?

just go to any tire place and they will have to chizel it off. unless you want to try to use the bar again......
