Master Cylinder Issue on EG
Hi guys,
pedal going to floor intermittently and suspect master cylinder. I have an 92 civic hatch. Have drum brakes but converting to rear disc. Should i upgrade the master?
should i get an integra one? Maybe just an eg si one?
would i need to replace the booster as well if i upgrade to the teg or si one?
Anyone done a master upgrade? I am going to buy oem honda just wondring which one
thank you

Re: Master Cylinder Issue on EG
my si with stock rear disk came with a 13/16th, some of the exs had 7/8, I am upgrading my si to integra sized fronts already has rear disks, I am upgrading to 91 ex MC that is 15/16ths and bolts to the stock booster and requires no re bending of the stock brake lines, it bolts up directly with no mods.
If you are not upgrading the fronts, you don't need to upgrade the MC
If you are not upgrading the fronts, you don't need to upgrade the MC

Re: Master Cylinder Issue on EG
Brock-Brum,
Brake pedal intermittently loosing pressure and falling to the floor (with no leaking of fluid anywhere to be found), is definitely the #1 symptom of a bad Master Cylinder.
Fortunately your future rear disc swap does not require any "upgraded" of the master cylinder. As others have mentioned, the Si with rear discs uses the same 13/16" unit. Therefore, simply replace it with the same size. The OEM Honda 13/16" master cylinder (now discontinued by Honda) was made by Nissin. You can still buy the same Nissin unit from both Nissin and Adler. There is also another brand that has them made without the Nissin logo on them (I think it's NTP). Honda made this exact same 13/16" master cylinder under many different part numbers, so sometimes you can find better deals by searching ebay or google for these older ones.
- 7/8" = 93-95 Civic EX non-abs Coupe (I run this setup on my 94 CX)
- 15/16" = 90-91 Civic EX Sedan

Re: Master Cylinder Issue on EG
Your 94 ABS chassis already comes with a 15/16" master cylinder (46100-SR3-833). Honda states this master cylinder is specifically setup for ABS (whatever that means). And even if the 91 EX MC you are asking about was compatible with ABS, it won't match your stock booster as the mounting studs are angled in the opposite direction.
