Manual transmission question
Has anybody noticed (and im sure you have) That when driving when you take your foot of the accelerator, and then smash the accelerator down again it sort of hops. What i mean is that it is not very responsive, you have to like wait a second for it to (excuse me for my terms) like catch up to the engine again. I have driven many manual cars before and i dont remember any of them like that. The Honda dealership said that it does that to "conserve gas".
My questions are:
What is that?
Why does it do that?
Is there anyway to fix/improve?
Thanks for everyones help.

Nope, sorry tightening the throttle cable does not work. It really feels, like when you take your fooy off the gas the clutch disengages and then when you press down again it feels like the clutch has to engage again. It really of drives me nuts.

Re: Manual transmission question (97hb)
if you have an A/F gauge you will see this. and if i am wrong please correct me. on decel in gear, i think the injectors are cut off. no spray and it takes a split second for them to catch back up. i know mazda did this only in manual cars though.

Why would i want to reprogram that? Because that little hop drives me nuts. I would like to be able to slam that gas on, with instant responses like any other car.

Re: Manual transmission question (brenerb)
I have a 99' DX and I get that too, and it gets to me sometimes when I'm in stop and go traffic. You have to really gradually apply pressure to the gas pedal.
My guess would be that our cars don't really have that much torque. I've driven a 2nd gen RX-7 and a S14 240sx before and they seem to be alot smoother.

2000 civic ex, D16 engine, i believe. As of now no mods. It has nothing to do with the mods because all my friends that has civics, also do this little hop.

I'm interested in changing this too, it annoys the crap outa me. I have a 93 civic dx. whenever i coast i desengage the clutch and revmatch and re-engage to keep my car from jerking like that instead of just leaving it engaged.

Yeah...my car does that...but I learn from it and don't drive it that way. Its the way the car is setup. I have a lot more torque now with a turbo and it still does it. You let off the throttle, and then mash it down....and you don't like it. Well, if rolling back on the throttle gives you better response, wouldn't you want to drive it that way? That's what I do.

Honestly my main complaint is driving in slow moving traffic and i dont want to push in the clutch, i just want to keep moving. Everyday i drive home in traffic and its quite bothersome. Im not lazy i just want it to drive smoothly.

it is the injectors (almost certain) because a few weeks ago i started a topic about after burn, and how my car would 'pop' after i let go of the gas, or deceled, and some guy said it was because the injectors were still going after i let go of the gas and something was happening. dont remember, but he did mention the injectors being on decel when they were suppose to be off...
my car does the hop thing at times, but not everytime, and when it doesnt, it usualy does backfire.

its real noticable on mine because i got some real STIFF suspension on my eg, and even running over a snail will send me airbourne, so when my car does it, u really feel it. i would like to know if it is the injectors because i was thinking it was something else.
