Manual/Power Steering Racks
I just bought a 93 del Sol S as a daily driver. It has a manual steering rack that I absolutely hate. This is a daily driver...not a race car...so I wouldn't mind a little comfort. My friend has a 98 civic hatch with a b16 in it and he has power steering. He wants my rack...but would it fit?
I reeeeeeeeeeally want power steering. Would the pump mount to my motor? Would I need to do anything special? Is this a job that the two of us could handle?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Manual/Power Steering Racks (riot)
swapping a steering rack with the engine in the car is NOT going to be easy.
Also if you do go through w/ the swap you will probably need a rack and pump from a SOHC 92-95 Civic. You have the 1.5L engine right? I'm not sure if any 1.5L Civics had PS (possibly the sedans).

I'm pretty sure that the only rack that an EK will accept, is that from another 6th gen civic.
Where as, the Del Slo should be able to use any 92-95 civic, or 94-01 Integra.

Re: Manual/Power Steering Racks (riot)
I did it in my '94 CX when I did the swap (three years of no power steering and I had enough). First of all, I think that the steering components are the same in the 5th and 6th gen civic. I got a power rack from a '93 and luckily I took the cross member as well. The cross member that the rack bolts to is slightly different because the power rack is thicker and has different bolt holes for the brackets that hold the rack.
So, if you do the trade be sure to remove the cross member and the rack. The tie rod ends are the same so you can just unbolt the rack there. All the hoses and line should work for your car. Check out http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and go the steering pages. That will give you a good view of all the parts needed. I do believe that there is a place to mount the pump, but you might need a different engine pulley with a space for the belt. Two of you should be able to do. If you have a lift it would make it easier, because it's hard to get in there with the engine in the way. It might not be the easiet job, but being able to parallel park with one hand is pretty nice. Good luck. I hope this helped.
Ah, like Fowler said. I guess that the racks a different in the 6th gen, but check some junk yards.
