so it was an option, correct? I just failed state inspection on an EG that I purchased last week & it was b/c there was no power steering pump/belt.

Yeah my no power steering is fine, everybody who whines about it must weigh like 20 lbs. Hell Im not even 140 lbs at 5 10 and still whip my car around at low speeds like its nothing!

How about when participating in autocross? I would think power steering would almost be mandatory since you're making turns in such tight spaces...

OK, so I called a local Honda dealership & they said that no DX they've sold came w/ power steering. That means that teh state inspector's here are MORONS & I need to go gripe..........thanks for the input

A manual steering rack gives more feedback; the extra effort required really isn't as much as you'd think. I prefer the manual rack in the '90 Civic Si that I co-drive over the slow-ratio power rack in my '00 Civic Si. The '90 feels a LOT more responsive, has a faster ratio, and much better feedback.

I believe automatic DXes may have come with power steering, but 5-speed DXes definitely did not.

I forget what the final decision was from the last time this was discussed. Search for the other threads on this topic.

Or why not just pop the hood and take a look?

Ehhh...i dont believe many use power steering that autocross...there a lack of feedback and it is not difficult AT ALL to turn when going over 2-3 mph with no powersteering. Seriously if you need power assisted steering in a 2500lb car your a girl.

i'm with eyewitness.....and we joke not, if you are going above 2 mph (literally) its no problem at all, only at a stop does it take a little muscle but even then i'd never go back to power steering and i'm only 5'7 140 lbs. once you are up to speed the turning is no problem whatsoever. i would rather autox with no power steering personally.

i have drivin cars w/o ps but personally i like it, its just a nicer ride!

I also prefer manual steering. As previously stated, it's really not difficult at all to turn, it does take a little effort from a dead stop, but the feedback while driving is SOOOOOOO much better. Any who, I now have to fight w/ a dumb state inspector to get my sticker. I went to our DPS' website & it's not even a requirement to pass. The only requirements are that everything must be in working order & w/in spec. WTF?

no PS for me..if my car did come w. it id take it out...reason is from what already been said..but going over bumps and **** on the road..u get a little more feedback then you would like...overall its fun..

Yeah Im a little guy (skinny that is) but I still got the muscles. Benching 225 at 119 lbs was gravy when I was wrestling!!!

OK, so my GF called the Firestone where we went for the inspection & they were A$$E$ to her. She stated that they wouldn't beleive her when she told them thet the DX didn't come w/ power steering. She ended up making a conference call w/ a Honda dealership & the inspector so that she could have Honda pull up the VIN. It was found by Honda that this DX was not equipped w/ power steering. The inspector still refused to give us the sticker. Well the guy was apparently being rude so she had her dad call & the guy h/u on them both repeatedly. Subsequently her dad called some government entity & they are coming to check out the car & give us an inspection tomorrow. I am pretty sure that the inspector guy got fired. The kicker about this whol deal is that according to the DPS that is not an item that the state actually inspects...........WTF is wrong w/ people?

real men have MANual steering. right. i want to swap to a power rack w/o a pump for a faster ratio. i've had people drive my CX and not notice the lack of power steering. you're not supposed to turn the steering wheel when the car is at a full stop anyways, ps or non-ps. it wears out the gears and tires. if the car is rolling just a bit, steering effort is pretty low.

Yup, that's what I have, a power rack with the lines looped & a clutch fluid res. as a breather. In terms of feedback it beats power steering all to hell, and except when you're trying to turn the wheel from a dead stop, it's really not that hard at all.

a maual rack is completely different than a PWS track that is not hooked up.......it is much easier wit the manual rack...........and while moving forward it is easy but still gives you enough feedback to feel the car and road
