Yes 5spd. to automatic.....just wondering how/if this could be done....

i am not doing this but a friend of mine is.....dont ask why or start saying leave it manual blah blah....

main thing i am wondering is the mount....i have an automatic mount and just wondering if i could take the manual tranny mount out and replace it with the auto...

any help or suggestions would be great (other than *leave it 5spd*)

Thanks

You need the whole engine and dash harness from a auto. What year and model is the car???

Yes it can be done, search around there's probably a thread on it. You will have to use the auto mount, i think wire the solenoids for the tranny, and bypass the clutch switch. My buddie done it to his 95 ej. I couldnt believe it until his dad told me they did. You'll also need the obvious auto shifter and such.
*edit* auto ecu too

There is a big hole in the floor for the shifter, You will prob have to get that welded up so the automatic shifter box/**** can get bolted up

I have done a auto to manual and after doing that would NEVER consider attempting a manual to auto. It would be such a pain in the ***. But good luck to you man. If you do it, make a how-to for us. It would be interesting to see.

For starters for a swap like this you guys had to choose the hardest chassis to go with but hey power to ya. Great learning experience for sure.

First thing i would do is pull the harness and swap it for an auto, easiest and quickest thing you could do. If you want to run your own wires have at it, but i wouldnt to much of a pain.

Next drill out the trans mount and weld in an auto trans mount. You cant use the manual one without making a really small custom mount.

Those are going to be the 2 hardest things to do. You could get away with the mounting of the shifter by using some U clamps to hold the wires down so you could shift. After all that is said and done its swapping a motor in and trouble shooting. Great learning experience cause you basically tear down a whole car and build it back up. Have fun with it and take your time. Because of so much fabrication i HIGHLY suggest if something frustrates you, stop and do it a couple hours or a day later. You dont want to fab something and then get pissed off destroy it and have to refab it again.
