making my stock ek engine faster

making my stock ek engine faster
i have a stock 96 ek and am probably not gonna get a swap any time soon. my friend told me that odb2 motors have restrictions on themfor emission laws which slows the car down a little bit. does anyone know how to get rid of the restrictions? or know if it is too much trouble for too little of a result?

Blah, don't listen to him. What kinda expectations are you looking for? Any track usage for the car? Drag strip? Daily driven? etc..?
Definitely swap your engine or turbo it. Can't really comment more til I get more info from you.

With a D16Y7 you're going to either need to swap or turbo to probably feel any noticable difference in power. An intake, header and exhaust just won't give you anything much more than sound.

Re: (NOFX)
carb legal intake= roughly 120
exhaust and piping= anywhere from 150-500(depending name brand or not)
headers wit carb numb. = 250ish or 150ish used.
thats about 500 or so for legit jobs not including labor.. use that money to invest in ur swap! if not.. wen u do decide to do ur swap and are 500 short. ur gonna really regret gettin all this.

Removing any "restrictions" won't make it any faster either.

yah dawg the restrictions are holding back at least 40 hp.
those "restrictions" are for smog requirements, earlier odb1 odb0, are easier to tune, thats about it.

If you're considering doing an engine swap later down the line, I reccommend AGAINST buying ANYTHING D-series related... that's just wasted $$$$.
If you want your car to perform better, the first place to start is with your Wheels & Tires and/or Suspension. These will help you build a better foundation for when you ARE ready for that Engine Swap. More power won't do much good when you can't translate it to motion, and/or when you can't keep your speed through turns (or keep your car on the road, for that matter).
You can happily amaze yourself with how much more responsive and FUN your car will be simply with new Tires. Couple that with a larger Contact Patch (bigger Wheels (hopefully, still lighter than stock)), and you'll understand...
80mph might be fun. 80mph **WHILE TURNING** is VERY FUN!!! It doesn't matter how you get there (speed) as much as it matters how long you stay there.
Just don't try to drive like this in public ... Have a Great, SAFE Drive!!!

He's being sarcastic. Even if you remove those items, you will not be any faster and in fact you will probably have issues.
