So i need a paint job and i was wondering how maaco was? i keep hearing mixed responses such as "oh no dont go to maaco your paint will start chipping after a short while" and "oh yeah thats a great idea just make sure you do the prep work yourself because the reason that their jobs arent great is because the prep work isnt that good" so im asking if anyone has gotten their car painted by maaco and how it turned out, or if i should just do my own prep work and bring my car there to get painted? also how much they would charge for complete paint and minor body work? anyone?

my cousin got her ek painted at macco...it was alright tho..she didnt do any prep work b4 it was painted...my friend on the other hand got his eg painted baby blue and they painted on his headlights and his muffler...i would say if u just want a paint job then go for it but if u want something thats more in the show area then no dont go for it..

If you do your own prep work, I hear it's good for the price. I plan on getting my car sprayed at the Earl Schweib in Everett. I'm doing all my own prep work.

prep work as in sanding it and primering correct? and no i just want a factory worthy paint job in the stock vogue metallic silver, and if you dont mind me asking how much are you paying to get it painted at the earl schweib?

Since me and you are both keep our cars the same color, this is the prep work you should do:

Start with about 60-100 grit sandpaper to take off the clear. Work your way up to 400 girt, and then wetsand with 600 grit. Make sure the body is straight, and then spray on a few coats of primer.

Earl Scheib has a couple of different packages. I think I'm going to get their level 4 package. It's about $800 and comes with a 5 year warranty. Not bad for the price.

main reason there not so great of paint is because they mix clear coat with the paint...it will look but youll have to take care of it to keep it lookin good...my friend camaro was painted there its about 5 years old and it still looks bangin...ill get a pic of it in liek 10 mins..

yo just visited the site and i must say thanks alot for the link! i was reading and i guess they already do the prep work for you? so im guessing the benefit of doing it myself will just save me money?

No. They have set prices (well, I'm sure it would be a bit cheaper if you did it yourself). The end product of the paint will be due to how well the prep work was. If you spend a lot of time on the prep work (they won't) and all they do is spray it. You can insure that your car will be better than if they did it.

This is such a broad answer. This is always the case, where ever you go.

so even the level 3 paint job where they say there is a 5 year guarantee they dont do that great of prep work? so even with the prep work that they do you would still do the prep work? sorry if im asking alot of questions there is just a lot that i dont know. thanks again.

quick question related to topic. anyone know how many coats of primer/paint/clear honda OEM paint is? i'm getting a lip painted and i want it to be OEM quality cause im sure it's gonna take a beating. i've had a lip painted before by a shoddy local auto body shop and the thing chipped to ****. i guess you get what you pay for.

maaco did a great job on my car. i did do all the prep. the only thing i could tell you to do is use good primer and make sure you wetsand. by good primer, i mean urethane.

that was my old car, my ek will be seeing maaco real soon. ha

it honestly depends on how you get there... i got my car painted there.. but i brought it as a bare shell.. i knew all they really needed to do was spray and i added an extra full clear coat.. came out awesome i will post the pics later

I was thinking about taking my EJ to maaco, but i dont want some fancy paint job. Just want Satin Black. My buddy paid about 700 for his paint job and they did a real good job. I just dont see how maaco could mess up Satin Black.

if you do the prep work yourself, and mask off critical areas yourself you should get good results.

If you plan on selling the car shortly after the maaco job, go for it, otherwise don't do it. All the Maaco's around my area use Dupont paint. Dupont paint fades bad. I would not suggest it. Just like anything, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. It may look good for a while, but trust me, only for a while( 1-2 yrs MAX).

Thats true too i guess. But where can you get a paint job and not spend around 2k for them to sand, prep and paint your car? I would sand my car myself, but i dont have the time or the experience and on top of that im too much of a perfectionist and would end up taking everything off my car before, so i dont miss any crevice.

Unless you know someone personally that paints, its gonna be hard to get a decent paintjob that will last for cheap, its just how it is. Thats just what i've learned being in the body shop industry, sorry. Like I said, the Maaco job may look good for a while, but if you plan on keepin the car around, you'll end up paintin it again in a couple of years with a Maaco job.
