If you're going to bother putting an LSD in a tranny, at least put it in a b16/ctr/itr/gsr tranny.

The LS is the cow of all trannys.

Quafe LSD is about 800 for the parts alone +installation right? Why not hunt down a b16 or gsr trans with LSD? I swore i have seen a few in the marketplace go for around 1k or so.

I've seen OE itr trannies go for 1200 myself, one on craigslist was for $800.

I wish I'd had the money at the time to ****** it up.

If you go with the oem lsd (ITR) your gonna need a type r or GSR ring gear, counter shaft and first gear. Because the ring gear on your LS will not bolt up to the OEM LSD. B16 and B18 (ls) have the same differentials/bolt pattern and GSR's and Type Rs have the same ring gear bolt pattern. Its the same as if swapping a 4.785 final drive and LSD into an ls or b16, You'll need the ring gear, counter shaft, pin bearings and first gear.

SO your best options are to get the Quafe LSD if you plan on keeping your ls tranny. OR the best Option would be is to just find a B16a or ITR tranny with one already installed.

1200... god damn. I think I would just pick up a gsr tranny that I saw for 450 in the So Cal marketplace and call it a day. LSD is not a necessity.

I agree, the obx are great if you're confident enough to take it apart and re-align the interior components.

I've heard several success stories. They're almost identical to quaifes once you get them apart and re-aligned.

Y not just buy a type r lsd and have it installed?

They are on egay all the time. I bought one that had the ring gear and everything. Granted I had a GSR tranny, but I got all the parts needed, I installed the type-r final drive it came with too......

They are about the same price as the OBX.......

Or this...2000 type-r tranny $1000 on egay.

What a deal, $1009 shipped for a good condition R tranny.

If I had some money I'd be on that like a rat on a cheeto!

Unless your car makes 800+ hp a long geared tranny isn't likely to be beneficial.

Then get a gsr/itr/b16 tranny.

You'll shave a second or so off of your 1/4 mile.

Myth.

Having a "sick" 3rd gear pull isn't worth having the slowest B-series tranny there is.

stop it i'm crying now
you can use the b16 or itr tranny, you'll just have to shift to 5th, how much hp are you planning on having?

Shifting into 5th with either of those tranny's means he's trapping over ~125.

I HIGHLY doubt he'll trap more than 110.

You're saying the maximum mph of the 5th gear is 110mph?

i'd say the b16/itr trans is perfect for drag racing sicne it has the shortest gear's out of all b series tranny. Once you start pushing for more hp and faster speeds, u can top out a b16/itr tranny. there have been combos of itr 1st n 2nd, gsr 3rd, itr 4th and ls 5th with a itr lsd final drive, it's just how much power you plan on producing. that is the major question. there my buzz started going away.
Also i just tested it, i have to shift to 5th @ 110mph (but i also have 14" wheels). i max out @ 120-125 beacause of my ecm
