LS/vtec build ....GSR or LS Tranny?
Just picked up an LS motor the other day. Freshly replaced oem parts from honda(b18b1 head, intake manifold, fuel rail, radiator, water pump, fuel pump). Going LS/vtec hopefully this month once I find a GSR head. Going to boost probably by summer after this semester is over.
Is either the GSR or LS tranny better for this build? I would love an ITR LSD tranny but I'll only go that far if the price is right. Also is the P72 from a GSR the ECU to use?

I like GSR tranny's myself but I know a lot of ppl luv LS tranny's for boost. If u r boosting the the base ecu doesn't matter much because they will all need to b chipped. If u would like the option of having a knock sensor and a spare output then the P72 is what u want.

I vote GSR trans. Even boosted the car will perform great with a GSR. I think most who have had both with boost would agree with me but everyone had their own opinion.

Some people say the LS will let you stay in boost longer, other people say the GSR is better.
Get any VTEC ECU, you'll have to chip it regardless. A P28, P30, P72... If you keep your IABs, get a P72. When you go to chip it, PM me, I have all the components I'll sell as a kit for $12 shipped. http://tinypic.com/r/9zsscz/6

Thanks thumper, I'll let you know when the time comes
Is it true the LS tranny has longer gears? and if so, is that necessarily better for boosting ?

Re: LS/vtec build ....GSR or LS Tranny?
B16A/B18C5 - SHORT
B18C1 - MEDIUM
B18A/B - LONG
LS does have longer gears which does let you stay in boost for a tad longer.
If you are going LSV w/ Turbo, i'd go with a GSR. Redline faster + you still hit the boost in time. But LS tranny's aren't always bad. They do perform well, no matter what people say.
It's all on the likings or how you build your motor.
Non vtec Turbo, I would get the longest gear possibles.
Vtec, I'd get the shortest possible
Vtec + Boost, I'd get something that would help you reach vtec faster, BUT still able to stay in boost for long.
Hope that helps.
