Default ls/vtec or b18c??

I have a eg with a b16a and i would really like to do a ls block or a b18c/gsr block.. which is a better block to go with?? Why do people use a ls block, i know its alot cheaper.. but is it really more power? Wouldnt a vtec block be better for the higher compression? I'm just really confused on what woulud be the better buy.. i just dont really know anybody who does the b16a head on a b18c or c1 block.. any help here??

LS/VTEC - not as reliable as stock (but can be), not high reving, but can produce good HP/TQ more than a B18C1

B18C1 - reliable, high reving, less TQ than LS/VTEC

from experience i have had both engines in my eg hatch.. i've recently swaped in the b18c for the lsvtec. what i notice was.... the lsvtec has more tq than the gsr, but for reliablity i would go gsr, plus ive notice that the gsr had alot more top end than my lsvtec. Unless the lsvtec is built right then it is reliable, other than that i would go gsr because it has more top end and more reliable.. hope that mad any sense haha

it doesnt matter if its gsr or LS vtec for reliability. it depends on how the motor is assembled and what was put in. i put together a ls vtec and its still going strong with 25k on it. LS will give you more tq and the GSR willl rev higher giving you a little more on the top end.

If you are pulling your engine apart you should just put an ls crank w/ new bearings, ls rods with new bolts and new piston rings. that way it will be fast and legit and last a while. I have never done an ls vtec but from what I have heard you have to drill out some stuff on the ls block to make way for vtec. The block you have already has vtec so I'm thinking less fabrication and less money. Or you can do GSR internals, but I think finding ls parts will be easier. It seems you are looking for more torque anyway. Don't forget new headstuds after all this too.

your choice is really 1.54 r/s ratio or 1.58 r/s ratio

honda chose 1.58.
