ls vtec?
ok so ive been doing alot of looking and asking and it seems everyone is against the ls vtec. and with the price of a b18c1 im wondering if it would be better to get a b16a and build that.
im looking to spend around 4000 and the price of the b18c would be streching that. so what do you think the benifits of getting a b16 and building it if there are any benifits. and what type of prices am i going to be looking at for the built b16.

so whats your question now?
you started talking about the LS/VTEC, then you start talking about a B18C1. after that, you start talking about a B16.
a B18C1 doesn't cost $4k, but the JDM Type R B18C would cost that much. which one are you talking about?

im sorry for the confusion.
i was quoted 4500 to have a b18c1 installed into my 94del sol si. and i was quoted 4000 to have a ls vtec installed.
and now depending on the price and performance im thinking maybe the b16a might be give me more for my money and i would just like some more input on the matter.

Re: ls vtec? (tcr03)
you can get a full jdm gsr swap from hmotorsonline.com shipped to your door for about 3400 bucks.
install the motor yourself = priceless and being proud of yourself.
if you can't install it yourself, i charge 400 bucks for labor for a motor swap. if a shop is charging you way more than that, they are ripping you off.
learn some stuff and swap it in yourself. i would go with the gsr motor instead of the b16. i have a jdm gsr motor and i'm happy with it. in the low 14's with no problems.

Where were you looking? I'm not against the LS/V set up at all, if it's done correctly. If you're going to just slap a Vtec head on an LS block, I wouldn't do it, but if you're going to change the pistons, and add a set of rod bolts, and have an experienced builder doing the work for you (if you're not doing it for yourself), then you can make some decent power for cheap.
