Default LS vs GSR vs Si Transmission??

Does anybody know the differnce between the LS ,GSR, B16 99 si Tranny? I have a 99 Civic Si....but my third gear keeps scratching everytime i shift above 4grand...I think something is wrong with my synchoros...tranny shop said to fix would be above 1K...so i say I minus well buy a new transmission and just swap it in..i think it would be cheaper...what do you guys think?

gearing is different, LS has longer gears, Gsr would be in the middle, Si tranny has the shortest out those three.

Stay away from the LS trans. The diffrence between the GS-R & Si Trans is minimal. Try some GM Syncro Mesh and if that doesn't work, Good Luck.

ls tranny has longest gears, good for a turbo setup, gsr tranny gears are a little shorter than ls, and b16 is the shortest of them all as stated above...unless you are going boost stay away from an ls tranny a buddy of mine had an ls tranny on a b16 and it was something awful

i agree.. stay away from the LS tranny.. but thereis a HUGE difference between the GSR and Si transmissions. Si is WAY better for allmotor, and arguably better for turbo also.

1st gear is the same and 2nd & 3rd have about 6mph between them.

I agree 100% about the Turbo comment. LS tranny is just myth, when it comes to turbo. Really about user preference. Give me an Si Trans W/ LSD and I'm a happy man.

Search for this. I am not trying to be a dick saying that either

But i seem to remember somebody posting the gear ratios for each.

GSR and SI share similar gears down low but end up with different final drives if i remember correctly.

Syncromesh..never heard of it....is it a different transmission fluid? or is it just a fluid enhancement for the tranny fluid?

I see on the specs that the B16 had the exact same ratio's at the ITR tranny. Damn this really pisses me off to find out that I have a ITR replica and its funked up! and B16 trannys are hella pricey..Imma have to get a GSR tranny. they run like 3x cheaper then the b16 tranny...and do you guys know the difference between cable and hydro? the cable B16 are still pricey..

You don't need cable. Start looking on H-T Claassifieds, everyone & awhile you run into good bargains for B-Series Hydro Trannies.

I have a 2000 Honda Civic Si with the Si manual tranny. I race Pure Stock on a 1/3 mile asphalt oval. I’m hitting the rev limiter just past half track. I would like another 20/30 feet before I hit the limiter. What tranny would work best for me?
I run second gear, third would not work with this tranny, not enough torque out of the corners.

P.S. I found this thread through searching, I hope the original poster doesn’t mind me posting this.

Thanks!!

Two choices: 1) Replace the EM1 4.40 final drive with an LS 4.26 final drive or 2) Get a tuneable engine management system and add 2-300 rpm at red line.
