Default LS swap into EK questions

my boy jus got a 98 LS swap into his 99 hatch. tsr did the swap, but there is a CEL and the car sputters at low RPMs sometimes. i had a couple questions to ask since he asked me to look at the car today. im a CRX owner, so im not too sure about the EK chassis.

first, how many mounts does the b-series swap use in the EK? theres only 3 on his car...moves like crazy. can the stock LS mounts be used?

second, theres a obd1 p75 ECU with obd2-obd1 conversion harness. how can i check the CEL code?

third, the car bogs and doesnt wanna rev higher at low rpms...this only happens sometimes too. its sort chugs along for a second, then as you open the throttle more it smooths out. sound familiar?

thanks

why is there a conversion to obd1 on an obd2 engine?? i bet he needs the obd2 p75 ecu

auto zone can check the code if you can take it there. i dont know how to check it yourself. check here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1171263

i believe there are 2 tranny mounts and three engine mounts but not 100% on that. i do know the b series rear mount from a 99-00 civic SI has to be used

i'm using a 0bd2a to obd1 conversion with a pr4 92-93 b18b...mine has the same symptoms yours has...but runs great when haulin ***..the plugs are healthy colored..i dono whats wrong with the thing..if i run an obd2 ECu where is my crank flunc gonna magically come from??? i have no wiring..i guess i could do that..but i already have the 125$ skunk2 harness so why not use it....if anyone has answers let here em...i hate that damn CEL..

my old g2 teg used to do that same thing. the code turned out to be 42 i think (but it was obd0 so it might be a diff code), it had to do with the fuel sytem

yup mine is 43...fuel supply system..only CEl i have...

anyone any ideas still???

hey at the top...dude..when i did my LS ek swap...my driver side mount lasted one rip down the road...i had to re make the mount...i completely drilled threw the whole mount and ran a 17mm bolt threw it...and bolted that to the motor...barely moves now...he needs a lower tranny from an Si and AC bracket from vtec sol...then that bad boy stays snug....i have it so snug the vibrations move into the car...

or...be a real player and buy hasport mounts...made for the B series...but you have to use the civic mounts ...no teg mounts on the civic...

the only one you use from an Si is the rear mount...all other mounts are from your EK..except the lower tranny and the AC bracket which come from Del sol Vtec and whatever model tranny you use..which i dono..i used a b16 trans so i used a Del sol vtec tranny mount too..

in a 96 up car you would use a 99-00 si upper block mount (driver side) and a 99-00 si rear bridge mount. You need to use a 94-95 vtec del sol ac bracket/mount (if you are keeping a/c on the car) single cam a/c pump bolts right to it and the factory ls lower tranny mount. The upper tranny mount off of your single cam tranny will bolt to the tranny with out an issue. So in total you should have 5 mounts holding the motor in place. If it is installed correctly you will not have a mount breaking problem. I do not see a problem with using a obd2-obd1 adapter it makes the swap a little simpler due to the fact of one o2 and the tdc sensor is in the dizzy. Several things will cause the fuel supply code. 1. bad o2. 2. bad fuel filter. 3. Wrong ecu. If the ecu is for a single cam and the motor is a b series then there is your problem. We tried to run a stock p28 on a 99-00 si and it threw the same code due to not the right fuel map. Good luck.

i know my o2 is good...my fuel filter is brand new...and my ECU is a pr4...and the other guy has the P75 for obd1..the only 2 ecu's for obd1...what else could it be again?

i guess mapping may be differnt for obd2 LS's...cause it runs like its not mapped right when first started and idleing

Was the tps broken on your swap? If so and you replaced it but didnt set it with a volt meter then that could also be your problem.
If the ecu is showing the throttle closed and it is acutally open a small amount then it has introduced excess air into the system. Just another possibility.
Bump for other opinions.

i'm not sure on that exactly...but when i bought the motor i was told it was just a stock LS that had been previously boosted...when he gave me the motor...every sensor was A-1 and i asked if he changed the map sensor or anything like that for turbo..he said no...no CEL's when he had it running in the exact same car..only he was usuing hondata S200b

i had a complete ls swap in my 99 hatch the ls i had was a 94 so i had to use an obd1 2 obd2b harness i had this exact problem.

Do the rpms bounce up and down?
If you keep the throttle open a little so you are at like 1800-2500rpms does it bounce?

If so my problem was my IACV i had to get a different plug and re-wire it and take one of the wires out of the ecu then it was fine.

also you explained that the car sputters and bogs sometimes when you get on it a little. mine did the same thing when it was a cold out. when i fixd the IACV it fixed it i also had to fix the intake temp sensor. try those 2 things i think it should work.

what exactly did you do to fix the air idle control...i'm getting code 10 too...i think? which is intake Temp..how do i fix that? you said you had to do that

i don't think my air idle control needs to be rewired only b/c my motor is obd2...so..i just think its my intake temp...but i dono how to fix it..i tried everything

does anyone have a pic of their engine bay to show me where the mounts are supposed to be?

there are 2 tranny mounts and 3 engine mounts...correct? my friend is tryin to figure out which mounts he needs to order, so im tryin to get everything straight for him. b16delteg said use all the stock EK mounts except the lower tranny and AC mount...then bigblockh22atch said use 99 si drivers side and rear tranny mount and del sol vtec AC mount. can someone clear this up for me?

in any case, the drivers side mount is on, but it moves a lot at that mount. and he probably has the rear and side tranny mount. are there any other brackets he needs to order besides the AC bracket for the other mounts?

last thing...does the IACV have to be replaced or can it be fixed?

thanks

i used the DX driver side top mount....but it snapped..big block hatch is proboly gonna tell you to get the 00 si one just b/c its for made for a dual cam and its proboly gonna be stronger....our lil 96-98 never had over 100lb's of torque so the motor mounts were fine...so if you need a new driver side..order it off a 2000 Si i'm sure they revised it and made it tons better...as for the lower tranny and AC mount..you need a 2000 Si AC bracket or a Del sol Vtec Ac bracket...and i'm using the Del sol Tranny bracket as well..

The Iacv i'm sure can be cleaned with carb cleaner and such..i'm gonna do mine and see what occurs..i'm re did all my wiring...and stilll the damn CEl is there..

b series lower tourqe mounts for the engine and tranny. the upper mount on the tranny i believe can be reused. the rear mount should be from a 99 si and the upper driver side mount that looks like a pop can be used but i had to get a different mount that is acctauly bolted to the block.
