Default LS Gearing

What is the diference between the JDM and USDM B18B LS transmission when it comes to the gearing? Im told the US trans is more fuel efficient because of longer gears. Is this true and if so how much of a mpg decrease and acceleration increase are we talking about with a JDM compared to USDM LS Tranny?
