Default LS engine or B16a...

can you guys help me decide on which one I should get. I can get the ls for $500 w/o tranny and I love the torque of the ls but the b16a has more power and can rap out. The cheaper route is the ls and i think with a gsr tranny or si tranny i could keep up with another civic. Oh ya I have a 92 vx... well what do you guys think.

Setup 1:

ls engine- 500
Tranny- 3-400?
ecu- 80
misc- 300?

Setup 2:

B16a- 1600
hassport kit-500
axles- 150

I was in the same place you are now.... I chose B16 for it's rod/stroke ratio..... safely rev higher than the b18a/b. also, you don't necessarily need all that torque.... with a light car, most of that torque will result in wheel spin. another point, with the b18a/b, any "big" cams you get are going to make it less daily driverr friendly. with vtec, you have a lobe that can be somewhat aggressive w/o loosing streetablility, and the secondary to just scream like the devil. i finished out my setup with an LS tranny.... i think it will help me with the longer gears since i won't loose speed shifting at the track

im really leaning towards the ls because it fits my buget, and i think i will be able to keep up with a b16a with a si tranny or a del sol tranny....

A 4 to 1 header is for top end a 4 to 2 to 1 is for torque

Go for the LS. You can run the plain LS right now, and later if you decide you want more power you can put a turbo on. The LS is much better for a turbo than the B16.
