ls boost or ls vtec
before any says anything i did search.
okay i just want to get a discussion on what you guys/ gals think of each. what would you do and why, which would make more power, which would be more expensive, pros and cons, easier to tune.
please dont give that "if it was ment to be HONDA would have made it"
im just trying to figure out what route to take, ive been reading alot on lsvtec but ive have not really touched on the boost part.
thanks in advance.

any reasons for boost?
and yes i understand that its going to be alota money for either. lets just give some reasons for your choices. thanks

i think boosting the ls would be easier than doing the ls/vtec. i was going to do ls/vtec, but then when i found out you have to change the oil pump, water pump, get another ecu, and do other things...i was like nah...thats too much work. i then decided to turbo my ls motor and i love it. it feels damn good with a turbo kit. i've taken out mustang gt's, other eg hatches with swaps, the new EVO, and some camaro's.
i also got my turbo kit used for 1300 shipped. i got a good deal on my turbo kit. just look around the FI classifides 'til you find a good deal.

well if you think about it, a well built lsvtec that's properly tuned will cost as much, if not more than a turbo kit.
and when you also think about it, boost can be as reliable as lsvtec if you build and tune it properly with alot more power
and boost just sounds more cool

Re: ls boost or ls vtec (93hb)
depends on which one you have the money to do it right. LSvtec does not mean you need forged internals. It depends on how much power you want to make and what you want. Both choices are high maintainence, so they are equal there. A turbo LS will be faster than an LSvtec. I, myself am going boost, but don't be surprised if it turns into a turbo'd lsvtec later....

Re: ls boost or ls vtec (Nader_D)
not a stock eg engine. you can boost the vx motor...just don't go up to 10psi. you could probably boost about 5psi and be okay. i wouldn't go anymore on the stock vx motor. now if your going to get a swap, right before you get the swap, i would bump up the boost for the hell it 'til it blows. thats if you don't care about your stock motor or what happens to it. you might be able to sell it though.

Re: ls boost or ls vtec (ThisLittleSleepeR)
I would go turbo. Its cheaper and more reliable. to make a lsvtec reliable you got to build the internals. because the engine just wasnt meant to rev that fast. with turbo you get more power without needing to build up. And the lower compression is a plus too. And if you do decide to build it up you can boost even higher!! and make even more power!!!
PSSSSHHHHHHHHH!!!! gotta love it!!

LS Turbo.. both cost quite a bit of money, the turbo will be more money intially while the LS/vtec will be money down the road(I mean, you DO want to make it faster over time right? ) depends on what you want to do with the car also

Re: ls boost or ls vtec (anotheredhatch)
Boost the LS engine.
Once the speed bug bites again you can tear down that engine and build for more boost, at that time a Vtec cylinder head and proper engine building can be performed.
The time in between can be spent driving your boosted car and researching if LSVT is right for you (not to mention how to do it correctly). Obviously LSVT engines are not for everyone, evident from alot of related posts.
Somthing to think about:
I can think of a few Chevy V8 engine combinations that were frowned upon when they first became mainstream.....but built correctly they make good power and life long lives. Hmmm kinda sounds like another type of engine metioned in this thread doesn't it????
**do what you want, if you ask on a forum all you will get are opinions anyways**

Re: ls boost or ls vtec (anotheredhatch)
i say get boost, i was in the process of getting ready to do a ls/vtec but i found out how bad the reliablity problems are, so i went with the SOHC boost...and ohh yah... you gotta love the sound of the BOV!!
