Default help: hit manhole cover that was laying on street!

I hit a manhole cover that some stupid kid probably pulled up from off the street and left it open. Well I ran the right side of my car over the cover and now my steering wheel shakes and wants to steer for me now
any ideas on what I should check for? I'm pissed cuz the night that this happened, I got an alignment that morning!

sounds like you need an alignment.

That sounds like more than a simple alignment problem. IIRC, manhole covers are only 1.5-2" thick. It shouldn't have caused much of a problem. What sized wheels and tires are you running? You may not have had enough rubber to protect the wheel. i would inspect the rim and make sure that it isn't bent.

Getting the wheel balanced will tell you if it is bent and it is much cheaper than an alignment.

Bent wheel, alignment is most likely off, bent tie rod, bent knuckle assembly.

You could probably take it up with the city and make a complaint. They might cover the damage if you can prove it is their fault.

most places have like a 30day warranty on alignments so if u just got it done that day go back to them and tell them it isn't right. they make take it back in and try to fix it for free. on a side note i don't think i would tell them about what happened because they may want to charge u for another one due to it not being their fault u know what i mean? so take it back and try just be like it still pulls to the side

good luck

Did you get money for this?

When I hit a cone off of a company truck I got a check so fast it even surprised me.
