Default Lower timing cover. A nessecity?

I have a b16a. I have the cover but it's not in the best of shape. I have seen people with them off, but I was wondering if that is really a good idea. What are the detriments of not running one? Can I leave mine off? Kind of looks cool without it. Thanks in advance.

Keeps debris from getting in there. I will always use them.

Safer for the engine > Looks cool

yep road debris getting inbetween your lower timing gear and belt would be a big problem

If I remember correctly (not sure on all models) but doesn't it have the timing mark on it to set timing?

It's in the oil pump as well. But it looks like it will stay on. Thanks for the advise.

First of all this a tech forum on 92-00 civics, not boosting you civic. That would be under the forced induction section of the site. Second, it becomes a problem when someone is trying to get info on one subject and has to root through all the jacking to get what they need. So quit being an AS***LE.

So do you have an extra one or something. I now see this is the case. That is why I am asking for one. Thanks for the input though.

No, that's a different marking. He's talking about the mark for ignition timing, which is on the timing belt covers.

As for the cover... leave it on. It's there for a good reason.

Ya, I got lucky. The car is almost stripped now. It's only been a couple of days too!
