Low RPMs at idle on 97 Civic
Hey guys, I think this is a fairly common problem with 96-00 Civics as it's a problem on my friend's 96 Civic DX and my sister's 98 DX. I also have the problem on my 97 HX
When you're just idling at a stop, sometimes it drops down to under 500 RPMs (according to the stock tach) and the car shakes a bit. Anyone know why?
Do I just need to simply adjust my idle? If so, how do I go about doing this? Is there an idle adjustment screw somewhere.
TIA

i had this and simply adjusted the idle at the throttle cable bracket... pretty simple.. just follow the cable back from the tb.. loosen one nut and tighten the other....

if you turn that skrew wait for the engine to warm up completely, or you wont be accurate, because of the FITV raising idle when the engine is cool.

you wont to adjust the idle screw or anything, caz this happens to me SOMETIMES, just like he said, it probably happens like once a week to me, but if you adjust the idle screw or anything, thats going to raise your idle up from the 900 rpm range that your car is suppose to be in, so then it would idle to about 1300-1500 when warmed up,
To fix this problem all i do is give the car a few 6000 rpm revs, and if it doesnt go back to about 900, i just turn off the car, and then start it up back again and that works everytime
cliffs, dont adjust anything, just rev/ and or turn off/ turn on car

Re: Low RPMs at idle on 97 Civic (SRd240sx)
guys, i backed out the idle adjustment screw (counterclockwise) and now when the car is warming up, it idles at around 1500RPMs... but when it's warmed up, and i'm at a stop, it will sometimes still drop to 500 RPMs and shake.
So adjusting the idle screw definitely increased my idle when warming up, but i still get the low idle when the car is already warm.. what's the deal?
