Low end acceleration getting worse??
Okay, I have a 2000 Civic EX (A/T, don't flame it'll be manual soon) with IHE, a camshaft and a AEM tru time cam gear on it. When I first put in the camshaft and after it was tuned (cam gear was put to 2 degrees advanced) it would have a gurgly 0-3000rpm (skunk2 stage 1 cam gear focused on mid range) then would kick up easily at the 3000. It's been like that all of June and July and August from what I could tell.
Recently I've noticed my car has been bad on the acceleration, needs more effort and sort of gurgles more to get from 0 - any speed. It used to gurgle from 0-3000 sort of then give a light quick accelerating noise up to 4500, where it shifts up. Now in that same region, it gurgles, then at the 3000 it'll accelerate SLIGHTLY faster than the 0-3000 rpm and just gurgle louder and roar louder tone. Also, regardless of throttle it likes to stay below 3000 rpm, even if I push the throttle say halfway down it'll still try to keep below 3000. I have to do a 3/4 to full flooring to get anything good out of the low end. It's still fine in the 70+mph on acceleration but until then it's running like a stock civic.
Only things that's changed is that in mid august I road tripped to Las Vegas from the San Francisco area, where I averaged 85mph both ways. Could the long trip have caused the low end to go to hell or the change in altitude? I know it was running like total crap in Vegas due to the high altitude, but now it runs like that here. I also went back to 89 octane from 91, since it was tuned on 89 in the first place.
Nothing in the engine looks out of the ordinary and I'm still getting normal gas milagle. Any ideas??
