Low cost engine hp upgrades
Ok, i know you guys get this "what part should i buy"....but i'm looking for something less than $100 that will add the most hp for my dollar, and preferably something that i wouldnt have to jack up my car to do (or if i do, something that i can do while my car is warm, because i'll have to drive somewhere to jack it up).

Buy books about high performance driving, or sign up for an HPDE. You can spend over $1000 for an intake, header, and exhaust. The biggest difference you'll notice is either a smaller bank account or a louder car.

Here you go!
http://www.turbonator.com
That's an option for les than $100. 35+hp guaranteed!!!!
Go on ebay or to autozone and get a cheap intake. Done.

No people need to realize that power cost money. IF your budget is $100 then you need to save up and not worry about how fast you can make your car. You wont notice a huge difference in I/H/E and as someone pointed out, that can run you $1000 or close to it.

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (Ragecloak)
ebay intake shipped for 35 is a good choice...my ebay intake was 35 you can check a pic of it in my sig...i painted it black tho, and it might not be performance, but a short shifter will make it feel that way, my apc dual bend was 21 shipped on ebay and all my friends want to trade me their b&m for mine....good luck and have fun wiht your car

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (zoomzoom92)
Heh, so helpful I know there's things under 100 that'll add to hp. Underdrive pully, intake manifold gasket, etc. I just would like to know what would be the best option. The turbonator thing...is that like one of those vortex things? I heard those things dont work at all.

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (Ragecloak)
those turbonator things are a joke. it makes sense in theory but in reality, they don't work nearly as well as is claimed. get a Cold air intake off of ebay mine was like 48 bucks shipped. and to be quite honest, it is the exact same thing as my friends AEM. Underdrive pulleys are bad for your engine. Your engine is equipped with a harmonic damper and it is comprised of two peices with rubber in between to reduce engine virabtions (http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=1283). this will explain all that, and in short lighter isn't always better. so i would get the intake and then save for the exhaust and headers then get a performance chip, i.e jet, etc. but not the one off ebay that promises 20+hp, that will ruin your car.

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (hypoxvi)
Thanks, i have an air intake, but i'm not really wanting an exhaust system, at least right away. I dont really like the exhaust sound of a 4 cylinder engine. What kind of chip would you recommend?

Chips are BS and will do nothing but hurt your performance.
Get a basic n2o setup as previously stated. Nothing under $100 will be worth a damn...

Burners, wb sensors and dyno time = too expensive :\ But you're saying a stock del sol tuned properly will produce more hp than i/h/e?

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (Ragecloak)
its tuned properly from the factory, chips are a bunch of bs all they do ismake you run a little rich i beleive and advance timing, its not worth them at all. Save upo another 150 bucks and get a nitrous system like a zex it is very straight forward and even someone not to mechanically inclided could install it, just run like a 50 shot though
edit: vtec controllers also do jack **** unless you have a crazy *** built motor changing the vtec crossover point will do absolutely nothingand you'll prolly lose power

find an ex/si tranny for cheap. Won't boost HP numbers but will help get you up to speed quicker!

Re: Low cost engine hp upgrades (AcurasFlagship)
Sell the VTEC controller and use that money in conjunction with the $100 you have now and save it to buy a Nitrous kit

You can get a short ram AEM intake for around 100$ It'll make your engine sound cool. Won't add that much power though(maybe 5 HP) Plus you can work on it from above. Other that that everyone else is right there are no cheap ways to greatly increase horsepower.
